Injured Blackbird
Hello - I've just got home, found an injured blackbird. It was in the middle of the road and was narrowly missed been runover.
I pulled over, picked it up and put it in the footwell with a T-shirt covering it. When I moved it, the bird was bleeding a little.
I've popped it in a box with some newspaper, water and some meal worms up in the garage and covered it over. I;ve done some quick googling and they said to do basically what I've done.
Any ideas what I should do? - they said to leave the bird for a few hours then release, but it will be dark soon - and far to many cats about. And I'm in work from early tommorrow.
Should I try take it back to where I found it? - a few miles away.
thanks in advance.
*Sorry - I not surry where best to post this - and this seemed like the best choice!

If it were me I would give it a peaceful night in your garage. Make sure it has access to food and water, and then make the call in the morning whether you think it's fit enough to release it before you go to work. If not, you might want to try calling the RSPCA while at work to see if they will come and collect it. Some branches wouldn't bother for a blackbird, but others I know of will come out.
If it's been clipped by a car it may well pass away in the night, from shock if not its injuries, unfortunately - but he might be lucky and pull through.
Good luck little bird :T"Your life is what your thoughts make it"

I would leave it over night and if it's ok try and see if it can fly. If it has been cliped by a car it can take them a few hours to come round. Do you have a local rescue group or a bird trust that might no someone near you that can help if it not better in the morning.I would like to be a glow-worm.

We had a sparrow fly into our lounge window a while ago, must have been flying at some speed as was thrown a good few feet across the garden. My Husband looked it over and it appeared to have a broken wing, as we have cats its not ideal to have it around as it would have been eated before recovery. Rang Rspb and was told to take it to the local 24 hour vets and they would assess the situation. Hubby drove down with my son holding the bird in a shoe box and it was promptly taken into a side room to be looked at - was not treated any differently to a domestic animal. They thanked hubby and son for taking it in and was told it would be released back into the wild in due course.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

We had an injured bird outside and my husband took it to the local vets and they took it willingly.
DH popped back the following day and they still had it and said it was doing well.
Might be worth contacting someone as it may need medical attention.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I found a shot in wing Barn Owl many years ago, RSPCA refused to come out or do anything, told us to kill it, which I did, with a spade on back of neck
Since then I & the people with me have never given any money to RSPCAWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -

Farway that is really sad but the RSPCA are like that. I do voluntary work for an animal charity and we get loads of calls to pick up animal after the so called RSPCA and cat protection league wont help out in Nottingham. But people will always give them money before they give to us :mad:I would like to be a glow-worm.

the rspca are sadly very hit and miss, they do some great work but ive had many problems with them in the past. I too used to give them money but no longer do. I worked in a cattery run by the rspca 2 years ago, they would put down cats for simple things like broken legs because they didnt have the room to house them! i didnt work there long. Ive phoned them up about a neglected horse and nothing was done for months and a injured sparrowhawk which was outside my house in a puddle, they told me to leave it where it was and phone them if it was still there in the moning! i find the smaller animals sanctuaries much more willing to help.0
