Why are white cars so popular now? After years of being last on most driving lists there seems LOTS of new ones on the road.

White was traditionally a more expensive colour on bodywork I think, unsure about now. Seems to be trend that's caught on again, maybe because it represents a 'cleaner' look.

I know a few people who are ordering white cars for their next ones. Personally I don't like them and think they look cheap. The remind me of old ford escorts.

Actually white cars show the dirt less than any others ;)

I think the resurgence in white is down to new paints now available, certainly the whites on modern cars looks a lot brighter than it did a few years ago.

White is a popular car colour all around the world, and up until about 10 yrs ago was the third most popular colour in the UK.

Designers love using white as it does show off the lines of a car better than other colours, which certainly suits the modern cars which have more detail than those of yesteryear.

I had a white car once and it never looked clean even after it had been washed. Best colour for not showing the dirt is dark red or blue but definitely not white or black for that matter.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I used to drive leased cars and I usually chose white if it was available. My reason was that white cars don't show dents and minor imperfections to the same degree as other colours. We used to have to hand the cars back in absolutely perfect condition so it used to save me money when I had to change them.

Also, the only other big white cars on the road then were usually police cars and it used to be fun watching people slam on their brakes and pull into the nearside lane when I came up behind them. :)

I agree that they are a welcome change from the oh-so-boring silver/grey.

When I said cleaner- I meant styling... Sorry, didn't make it clear! :)

The point about imperfections is true- I've a car in oceanic green, close to racing green. Every mark shows!

I'd always said that I'd never buy a white car, but I bought a White Fiesta ST (with the blue stripes) and there weren't that many about - which was cool! (IMO :-) )Changed it to a differnet shade of white Fiesta (again with the stripes), its a very "white white". where as the other car looked almost cream.
White tended to be cheaper, - no metalic fee. They show the dirt something terrible and are very difficult to get a shine on when you wash.
I had a metalic blue fiesta ST, and miss it a bit as when it was washed and waxed it would shine beautifully. Some cars just suit been white, others dont. I not sure why they are so popular now, other than the fact that the new whites are a nice crisp clean colour and not creamy.
