  • Don't give up. I wouldn't take no for an answer regarding non payment of a damaged item and EVENTUALLY was refunded - but it was a real struggle.

If they were an ordinary business carrier they'd be out of business for their shoddy service.
  • I once had a Special Delivery item appear as being delivered on the website almost 3 hours before it actually was!! Weird!!
  • Only use Special delivery,Recorded delivery means nothing except that the item has been delivered,it offers little else.
I have a deep burning indifference

But why should we pay for expensive Special Delivery for everything? Most of my buyers would not purchase from me if I only offered Special Delivery as the postal option. The fact is if you use recorded delivery you are paying for a service that delivers the goods and gets a signature. On this occassion Royal Mail have failed on both parts and should pay up immediately.
  • I have recently sent 2 items worth £50 each via recorded delivery about 1 week ago, they have yet to show up as even being sent. Great service. I also love the extra they now charge us for this great service.
  • The reason for the delay in the Special Deliveries appearing on the RM website is because the delivery staff are not getting back to their delivery offices until after the cut-off time for the imputting of Special Delivery details.
Alot of delivery staff don't start their delivery walks until after 9.00am, so some of them are still delivering after 1.00pm. My Delivery Office shuts for the general public at 12.30. So work that out!!!!

But the delays I have experienced in waiting for the delivery status to be updated have been weeks, not just a day. Plus it doesnt excuse RM apparantly misleading people by simply showing an item as 'DELIVERED' when in fact it was delivered late! If youve missed your target-be honest about it at least.
  • Seems the best thing to do in future is not refund the buyer until the RM claim has gone through. Buyer is much more likely to confirm non-delivery if it's their claim depending on it.

Ive thought of that however if the buyer has claimed non receipt through Paypal, Paypal only give you 10 days to either provide online tracking to prove the delivery took place, refund the buyer or provide a replacement so you have no choice and no time to wait for Royal Mail to act. If you dont respond to the Paypal dispute then they find in the buyers favour and refund anyway, whether or not the buyer eventually agrees to the letter from Royal Mail.

Also telling a buyer that he has to either pay for a second item and wait for a refund on the missing one when hes agreed to the Royal Mail letter or to wait for a replacement to be sent only when hes agreed to the Royal Mail letter will be a sure way to get negatives since you cannot claim until 15 working days has expired and currently its taking RM about 8 weeks to procees a claim.
