HomeBuy Direct

I am in the process of purchasing a flat via the HomeBuy Direct Scheme. I have been approved for the scheme, approved a mortgage and have just appointed a conveyancer to do all the legal stuff.

However, I am using the solicitor that was recommended by the site office and although I almost didn't, I felt it would be easier as I didn't really have a clue what I was doing! Initially I was told that some of the fees would be paid by the developer but shorty after I was told that they would be unable to do so as they were not allowed to offer any extra incentives or I would be refused for HomeBuy Direct. Is this true? On my approval letter it has a field for any incentives agreed and it states none. Surely that means that it IS possible.

My legal fees seem to be creeping up slowly and it's very overwhelming. One of the people at the site office has already given me wrong information twice (once was insisting that as I'd listed their recommended solicitor on my reservation form that I was legally bound to use them, even though I had not instructed them). I doubt I could insist they help out with legal fees at this stage but I could at least express my annoyance with them if they have lied!

Thanks in advance for any help! I'd also like to hear about your HomeBuy experiences!
