Difficult Vendors

  • I agree, basement flats with damp just seem to get more and more expensive! It is quite difficult to find one that is completely impervious to damp, and I have seen some in terrible states. The last one I saw needed over £15000 of work doing as it hadn't been done properly in the first place. After all this I think maybe earth against outside walls just doesn't work!
  • G_M, I was willing to pay for damp survey but the vendors were demanding I make them a new offer & were very resistant for survey to be done first.

Anyway, after more discussions vendors have now agreed to let surveyor go in.

timmyt No I'm not a first time buyer. I've had the Homebuyers' survey done; the damp survey is completely different. The quote from damp contractor was £4400. The quote stated that there would be additional costs for 'making good' areas worked on and possibly more if more damp was found. I know £8k sounds a lot but I wanted the vendor to allow me to get an independent damp surveyor in for accurate quote which as I've said they were reluctant to let me do. you'll probably lose the sale, as the sellers will get tired of you Maybe but actually I am also tiring of them, too.

tryingtoruletheworld, After all this I think maybe earth against outside walls just doesn't work! It's lower ground not basement so no earth against outside walls except one wall in one bedroom.

Thanks everyone for advice, always good to get different points of view.
