The trip computer will tell you the distance to empty, but it obviously depends how you drive as well.

the new mk7? possibly around 15 miles or so dependant on driving conditions.. if its a diesel dont let it run out..

edit have asked on the owners club and they seem to think approx 30 miles dependant on driving conditions..

Normally its about a gallon left in the tank when light come on.
Cant imagine any car having the light come on at 15 miles to empty...

A good Driving Instructor would not let a car get below a quarter of a tank full, let alone wait for a warning light.

The shape before this one (05-08) has the petrol light come one when the computer thinks there is 50miles left, not sure if they changed this in the new model?

i would agree here, this really shouldnt be an issue for a driving instructor. its a basic check.
but if it is a problem then is the new fiesta not equipped with the trip computer that tells you how many miles are left in the tank? it would work this out by monitoring how its been driven over the rest of the tank (or since last reset) so how its been driven will often give different outcomes.
my transit for instance always shows the fuel light when theres 55 miles left in the tank.

Depends on the model Fiesta if it has a trip computer or not, I'm guessing the OP's hubby doesnt have it on his. In mine I've pushed it to almost 40 miles but I spent the last 10 of them being very worried about every oddish noise. Generally after the light comes up I fill up a week later which means about 25 miles (assuming all I've done is drive to and from work).
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Does the light not come on but when it's really low it starts to flash?
Oh, and the guys a poor driving instructor because he lets his tank go below a quarter? LMAO.
