I've heard Southwater isn't too bad just outside Horsham - what do others think that live in Horsham?

I've lived in Worthing a good while now and whilst it has changed over the years it's still pretty decent. Good primary school is Becket (house prices a little higher for the catchment), but as someone else said, Davison (girls) and St Andrews (boys) for secondary. Unless you can afford private (Sion or similar). Good transport links, good sports facilities and ok shopping, well placed for visiting Horsham, Brighton, Chichester, London etc. As an aside two work colleagues have recently moved over the last year from Horsham to Worthing as they liked it better. Cannot comment on which is better but there is a new swimming/sport facility in the park at Horsham and it's a pretty place in the centre anyway. The younger set at my Horsham office said they always visited Worthing for entertainment (eg nightclubs, bars) so not sure if that helps! Look at both areas and see what your gut feeling is.

I've lived in Horsham since 2005 & have to say that I love the place. It can be a bit WASPy though - don't expect too much in the way of multiculturalism! It has always seemed to me a fairly well run & prosperous place. It's also well placed geographically - 30 mins or so from coast or capital & easy to get to Gatwick, but not (generally) under the flightpath.

Shopping is fairly run of the mill, with the usual retailers featuring. There's a nice little farmer's market on a saturday which is always popular with the locals. There is a lovely large park next to a decent-ish sports centre.

Schools are generally considered to be of a good standard - Can't comment on primaries, but there are three secondary schools:an all girls (v good), an all boys and a mixed one. The sixth form college (Collyers) has also got a good reputation.

House prices tend to be a tad on the high side, you'll be able to find a house (just) for your money. Areas do vary - Roffey is thought to be the "rough" area, but as someone who grew up in Gillingham, even Roffey doesn't seem that bad!

if you've any other questions, please feel free to PM me !

Crikey, coming from Gillingham, anywhere else would be a step up from there :rotfl:

Thanks for taking the time to give the information as you did. It's appreciated ;-)

Seem to now be narrowing it down to areas just south of Horsham, around Mannings Heath, Lower Beeding, Monks Gate, Nuthurst etc. Anyone have any opinions on those areas and/or the schools in those areas or any of the other areas just a little south of Horsham at all please ?

lol I lived in Roffey a couple of years ago noone told me it was a rough place! Lovely chippie there though.

If you live in the villages you'll have to do a school run in the car. My wife went to Colgate (20 years ago!) which I understand is a great primary.

    Think you'll love Horsham though.

In the North, local kids school is Holbrook which seems OK. Nice neighbourhood :) If you ever settle and want to know the good pubs etc send me a message!
