They won't care that he might have got it and put it up for sale???

Honestly, they simply won't care, you're dealing with someone in a call centre in the third world following instructions on a screen or a laminated bit of paper.

My PayPal account is showing a negative £400 balance. (£400 in the red.) I immediately withdrew the funds to my bank account after he paid. It was sometime after this that he opened his first PayPal action against me. When that failed, he initiated the chargeback (also through PayPal.)

    Happy days.

You've had the money, that's the most important thing.

Suggest to paypal that they persue the person who did a chargeback on them.

As far as you are concerned, you paid them to transfer some money to you, which they did.

It's not your problem that someone's tried to defraud them.

It's just a paragliding club. It's big and has many members. (I bought the item when I was well and had some money, and sold it when I became sick and broke.) Naming him or the club is unlikely to prove helpful and may bring about legal issues of it's own.

So the general consensus is that I hold most of the aces? It would make me feel quite a bit better if I did.

    tl:dr ...

However if a buyer raises a paypal dispute with you as a seller, then paypal take the money from you immediately. A friend had this happen. He contacted eBay/PayPal and proved without doubt that the item had arrived. They still didn't relent.

So his funding source for ebay was his credit card, so he got the credit card company to do a chargeback. The result of this was paypal got upset and froze his account, as it's not part of their terms and conditions. However legally you are allowed to perform a chargeback. My friend took them to the financial ombudsman, and won his money back with damages too.

Tis always worth fighting the big man!

To end my story, PayPal and eBay and the guy's credit card company dismissed all claims against me (including the chargeback), but only after many months of often arduous and bitter dispute. Even though all parties concerned agreed that this guy was trying to screw me over, it contributed in the end to my decision to take out a debt relief order as a protection against this and other potential debts, which led indirectly to a lifetime paypal restriction. So even though I won every conceivable aspect of my case and was proved innocent of all wrong doing, I can't use PayPal anymore. However given the level of grief they gave me, it's no skin off my nose. It's their loss. They made a ton of money off me over the years, often charging extortionate rates, so I can honestly say that I don't miss them at all. I have (and still have) a substantial 100% eBay rating, so my reputation is beyond all doubt.

The moral of the tale is if you are in the right and know you are in the right, fight your corner for as long as it takes, even if victory in the end might have a bitter sweet taste.

    Well done :T

HDNL have a habit of delivering items and not tracking them to the end - so they still show as being in a depot. In many cases, they are in the intended persons hands. A quick look online and the other person is aware of this.

Well done for fighting your corner - glad it turned out OK in the end.
