Living in the USA for 6 months

Hi all,

I'm going to be going to live in the USA for 6 months in January. I'll be wanting to keep in contact with my girlfriend whilst I'm over there as much as possible so I will be wanting to get a blackberry. It's not so much call time I'm worried about (as I can use skype for that when both at home) but it's going to be things like txts and perhaps blackberry messenger for when we are both out and about or at work.

Now, I've scoured the usual British companies and they don't seem to do any international packages for calling "from" abroad. It's all for calling abroad. Like I've said I'm not too interested in the calling, its more for the internet so I can use blackberry messenger etc.

Has anyone any information on what I could do. The only option I can think of is buying a BB SIM free in Britain and then getting a SIM card when I get to the US. But I'm not sure if they require 12 month contracts etc which won't be any good.

Any information much appreciated.

I used my UK sim in the USA for BBM, cost me about £5/week additional to my normal £10/mth BB Simplicity deal with O2. If you're on wi-fi over there when you BBM then it's free anyway.

Great information. I'm actually with O2 myself so I will probably be able to get a similar deal. Thanks for the info.
