Inspections by letting agents- 9 to 10 times a year seems excessive?

there's no way I'd rent from an agency that behaved that way - like matron inspecting chests of drawers in a boarding school!
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

There is no way in hell Id sign a contract that would suggest such infringement on my quiet enjoyment of the property.

I just wouldnt, Id take my money elsewhere.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Totally bonkers imho. One inspection's enough for normal people... any more would only be (possibly) necessary if the tenant was of a troublesome nature, with a chaotic lifestyle and if they'd received complaints from neighbours/whoever.

Renting under those terms would really be just like paying to be imprisoned.
Totally agree but, well, here's an LA that seems to think it's okay, according their website

As the Board likes to keep potential Ts aware of LAs and their little foibles maybe we should highlight any others who have this practice.;)

The renting lark can be hard in some areas, where there's few properties and little choice of agent. They really make you want to spit don't they.

That's why I won't rent at the moment ... I hate all the petty rules and long list of potential hidden costs. It's simply not straight forward.

Gone are the days of: Flat to Rent. "This is nice, I'll take it". "OK".
  • I never formally inspect the flat that I let, usually "something" happens every year (a repair or query from the tenants) and I pop round to see them rather than deal over the phone. That way I get a quick, inobtrusive squiz round the place at a convenient time for us both. Every 6 weeks!!! No way.

Thanks for all the comments on what is "Normal", now I can work out when a letting agent is taking the mick on inspections.

    Cheers

That's always been my approach too. Never had any problems
