they are charging me £167 a month on fixed on line verson 5.

Fix online 5 is a competitive tariff for that high a useage. Might be worth sticking with it until March.
If you want to save money, you may want to see if you can cut back on your electricity or divert some of it to gas. I trust you only have electric heating?0 -
we have gas central heating but never put it on cant afford it sadley. this is a 3 bed terrace so i have no idea what is taking so much electric. we have a electric fire but dont use it offten just put more jumpers on water is a combi fueled by gas0

Then you have to identify what is consuming the electricity - it is not possible to use 19000 kWh of electricity without noticing the side effect (heat).
Once you have identified the source, switch to gas central heating - if there is no provision for the radiators to be turned off room by room pay for it to be upgraded.0 -
so how do i find out what is using the electic? because trust me there is no heat in this house0

What difficulty are you experiencing in using the comparison sites?
It's the annual consumption figures in kWh that you were provided with that you need to input.
Also required will be your postcode (as rates depend on location) and ideally the current tariff name to get an accurate comparison.
(Even if you don't put in the actual current traiff name you can still use the comparison sites to get a list of tariffs and annual cost, cheapest first, but the indicated savings will be wrong)
Edit: you do realise that at present you are using £2294.40 worth of energy per year and only paying £2004, leaving you with an annual expected shortfall of £290.40."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Hi julieanne
That's a fair chunk of electricity you are going through and you're doing exactly the right thing in checking out the comparison sites for the best deal.
Let me know if the figures we have provided are causing difficulties. I'd be happy to check these out to make sure we have given you the correct info in the proper format.
Just drop an email to the address in my Profile if you would like me to do this.
If you are using this amount, it would be a good idea to have a chat with our Energy Efficiency team. Give them a list of all the appliances in use and they will be happy to advise of ways you might be able to cut back.
Ask them for a copy of a booklet called '100 ways to save money by saving energy.' It's free and contains lots of useful tips to help you reduce your usage.
Also, check out our website, particularly the interactive house; more good energy saving ideas here.
Hope this is useful julieanne. As I say, give me a shout if I can help further as will be happy to do so.

Try getting hold of an energy monitor, not sure if E-on are giving these away at the moment (maybe Malc can let you know if E-on can furnish you with one) if not try borrowing one from someone or try your local library, I know some have energy monitors you can borrow for a couple of weeks.
If you cant get a free one or borrow one then they cost around £30 - £40
An energy monitor will certainly help you pinpoint where all that electricity is going, plug in your monitor and turn as much as you can off then gradually turn stuff on while keeping an eye on the monitor..
Anything that uses electricity to heat will be using more, so dishwashers, tumbledryers, ovens, heaters, irons etc all use a fair amount.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
You are averaging 51kw per day, that is like have a 3 bar (3kw) electric fire on for 17hrs per day.
Suggest you read you meter every day for a couple of weeks on log what you have on i.e. tumble drier for 30min and try and see if there is any pattern. If the useage is even then something is eating it up, if it spikes then look for what was on that day. My vote we be for the immersion heater to be being used.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
