IME it helps when starting out with a liquid liner, if you draw on in pencil first- your hand gets used to the curve and then go over it with the liquid, using lots of short lines or dashes (not dots, dashes). Make the line plump out at the end- just how much it plumps put is up to you and what look your going for but you get used to working out what to do the more you do it.
The dash which comes outside the edge, do not pull your eyes taught or you'll get a big uneven blob which wont look as long an elegant as it did when you applied it.
The underneath, if you have big eyes you want to make look smaller, line the actual rim of your lashes, if you have tiny or average sized eyes you want to look bigger, line the ri with white or pastel pink, the black you use needs to only be on the corner and below the eye and make sure when you apply the mascara you apply on the edge lashes by sort of pulling the lashes outwards in the direction of your cheekbone to draw the eye outwards and legnthen.0 -
Some other small tips -
- Try a gel liner, you have so much more control over the product but it gives you the liquid liner look.
- a black eye shadow lined over the top will take off a little of the harshness and will disguise any minor wobbles!
- A good angled liner brush will do half the job for you, if you've got one of those liquid liners that comes with the little applicator brush, just brush the product onto the angled liner brush and then apply using short little strokes.0 -
As above and keep a few cotton buds to hand to mop up any wobbles/smudges etc, takes alot of practice and I'm still no expert. Good luck

Or invest in the YSL pen liner (that isn't it's official name but I can't remember it) which is a liquid pen with a really thin brush tip. It's the easiest eyeliner I've ever used; I'm normally someone who struggles with liquid eyeliner as I end up doing too thick a line, but this one I can do a really skinny line without needing to rest my elbow on anything! I can use it on the go and draw such a thin line that it looks incredibly natural. I highly recommend it. I believe Clarins have recently brought out something quite similar but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.0

YSL Automatic Eyeliner; that's what it's called

I love liquid eyeliner but can't get on with the felt pen ones. My technique is probably a bit unusual but I aim to draw the line at the base of my lashes to ensure it is right at the lashline. I have quite fair lashes and as it is difficult to get mascara right at the roots this makes it much less likely that there will be a gap between mascara and eyeliner.
I also like using a fine angled brush when I want a softer line.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
I picked up a really good tip off QVC a few weeks ago for liquid eyeliner. Rather than holding the brush horizontally, hold it vertically and kind of dot it in between your lashes. You put the brush in between your lashes as sort of wiggle it. I love the effect this gives. You get a more subtle look than a solid black line but you still get the emphasis. Works best if you have a liner with a more solid brush, not one of the very fine floppy ones.0

I am terrible with eyeliner - I never really wear it. Although I think it looks lovely, I seem to end up with a gap between my lashes and the line - maybe becuase my eyelashers are naturally curly - but they always seem to get in the way!0

Thats got to be Bobbi Brown right?- thats their trademark eyeliner application instructions! Works very well though!
OP, maybe try visiting a counter like Bobbi Brown as they can apply the liner for you and explain how its done- they did such a good job on my eyes last year I bought myself a liner and have to say its the best eyeliner I own (and I have tried more then I can count!) for an eyeliner brush- just works 100 times better, try Boots as they have them at a very affordable price, especially if they have their £5 vouchers.0 -
I find the liquid easier to put on and it stays put.
If I use a pencil, within an hour I've got pandas or it's all disappeared. I don't know what I do wrong.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
