Panasonic tz8 - would this replace still camera and video?

I have recently damaged my sony camera and need a replacement, I also have a disc video camera which rarely gets used. I bought the flip ultra hd from Amazon but think I will return it.

The TZ8 panasonic is just under £200 on Amazon and seems to do the job of digital stills and video recorder. I am hoping it will be easier to use also as it takes SD cards.

Does anyone know:

How big an SD card does the TZ8 take?

Can I play back videos from it through the SD card on the Wii console?

Thanks

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Spec says it takes SD Memory Card, SDHC Memory Card, SDXC Memory Card. So up to 16Gb, don't know if they go any bigger.

I think the Wii only shows jpegs.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Thanks, seems though that the wii only takes up to 2gb SD cards.

I don't believe the Wii is SDHC capable, unless they've updated the firmware. I haven't been on ours for a while now.
Also SDHC cards can go up to at least 32GB for not to shabby prices
Although for the sake of convenience its cheaper to buy two 16GB cards or even a few 8GB cards. You can still get a fair bit of film on these. I used to buy from picstop. they sometimes do voucher codes too. Don't know if they are still one of the cheapest but they used to be. I trusted them far more than the knock offs on ebay from Hong Kong. One thing to look at is the read/write speeds for these cards. if your transferring a lot of data it can be worth spending more on a faster card, but the price increase can be steep, on the other hand it might affect how quick you can process a still shot. Anyways your asking about the camera not the cards, so I'm waffling on a bit:o

PS seeing as its SDXC capable then space is certainly not a worry.

Thanks for your reply, I have to be honest I have no idea what the difference between SD, SDHC, SDXC is, just checked the card I am trying to use and it is SDHC so that looks like the problem. But I am updating my wii console as we speak to see if it makes a difference to the SDHC card.

identical in appearance the SD card was limited to under 4GB due to the way its made and programmed.
The SDHC came along as technology got better, ie music formats switching more heavily to .mp3 type etc camera's getting better megapixels (meaning each picture takes up more spac, same goes for video especially HD) mobiles going from basic camera phones to little media centre's, the requirement for this space meant less than 4GB was not enough. When SD cards/other flash cards came out 4GB seemed huge, now it isn't. So by creating a new format (SDHC) you can get up to 32GB(at least) SDHX goes one better, I think it can reach 2TerraBytes (2048GB) when the technology improves that much in the future. They look identical so the more modern SD cards can read the legacy SD cards as backwards compatability means people aren't worried about buying new kit and having to throw out the old cards, which at the moment the 2GB ones are still usefull. Also it means some kit can have its firmware upgraded so they can become SDHC compatable, like the card reader on my old laptop and hopefully your Wii.
Hope I didn't bore you to death with all that! Good luck with the Wii (let me know if it works, I'll have to try it myself)

I've updated to version 4.3 but still no joy, if I click on photochannel it says its not usable if I click on the SD card menu it seems to know there is a card in there but does not load anything.

The 1gb SD card loads fine through the photochannel and pictures were taken on same camera.

I've checked again and it really should work, the only thing I can think is that you save what ever is on your sdhc card to a safe place and format it in the wii ( if it lets you get that far) maybe worth a try. Also make sure your sdhc card is not in the write protect position

I just checked the nintendo site and it confirms sdhc after version 4.0
Another problem could be that you have the sdhc card already formatted to ntfs instead of fat32. if the wii cant detect your card to format it, it might be worth doing this in windows to check. just to be safe, make sure you do a full format not a quick one

It shouldn't make a difference but try formatting it in the wii (if you can)
Also try putting the card straight in the wii without the photos if your formatting from a pc. (did you do a full format not a quick one)
Finally are you sure your wii is updated fully. I'd go into the settings and check the version incase it didn't work last time. It should be at least v4.0
