Virgin net cancellation charge

I am moving house. The new house only has telewest into the property unfortunately. Am trying to leave virgin but they want to charge £50. Their t and c's appear to say this is discretionary "they reserve the right to charge" not that they will charge. My protestations on this are falling on deaf ears. I can't speak to someone who can do anything about this as all the managers "are in meetings". Anyone else had this issue. Thanks J

  • according to this thread, a MSE member 'dazed' was never charged for starting and ending Virgin contracts in recent times.

they probably reserve the right if you are a few months into the contract... but if your like in your 10th or 11th month - they could let you off

besides - I had thought that NTL owned Virgin.net now - and as NTL and Telewest merged.... maybe some sort of agreement could be made...

it probably wouldn't get you far, until the big Telewest, NTL, Virgin Mobile merger is completed though - once rebranded to Virgin
  • Hey Jellyfish1,

    Have a look at this:

    http://www.adslguide.org.uk/newsarchive.asp?item=2753
The Advertising Standards Authority (https://www.asa.org.uk) has ruled against Virgin.Net on a public complaint regarding a banner advertisement which read "... Get broadband without the commitment. No 12 month contract. £14.99 a month ...". The complaint alleged the advertisement was misleading due to the £50 fee charged if the service was terminated within the first 12 months.

This might help if you quote this when you talk to them again regarding the charge.

    Kind regards,
