Sorry you're right, speaker does have 4 pin plug but panel on motherboard only has 9 pins. 8 are taken up by power switch, resent switch and leds. I can't find anywhere to plug in the speaker.0 -
Does the fan inside the psu turn when you plug it in? My DS had one where the fan in the psu was defective. The case fan may still turn and you can hear it but if the psu fan is not turning that will cause big problems.0

Yes the fan runs fine. All fans run and you can hear the hdd spin up.0 -
Check the memory. Try taking one stick out, switching which bank its in etc..
Also, as people have mentioned, try another power supply. Make sure you havea ll the power supply conenctors plugged in, If it needs it make sure you have the 8 pin and the 4 pin plug plugged into the motherboard. Before they came as snap ons, the pins were seperate as a P4 plug.0 -
Some motherboards come with the cmos set to clear: ie the jumper on the board is covering the 2 pins to clear the cmos.. I would hedge a little bet that this is the problem. Take a look at the manual and see where the jumper swithc is and fingers crossed, move it to the other 2 pins anfd it will boot.
By the way there are only 3 pins..
Also, some motherboards require a second power supply to the board, again check your manual
I have nothing better to do!!!!

I had the psu on one of my rigs slowly die on me over 2 days last week. First symptom was only that Windows would not boot normally but was OK in safe mode for a few hours. Then later it stoppped booting in safe mode and would hang after POST. After that it failed to POST and just powered down (no diagnostic post beeps though), but all fans and mobo LEDs indicating normally. Then finally the fans stopped, leaving just the mobo pwr LED.
Fortunately I had a spare psu so I was able to quickly confirm the diagnosis and order a new one. Took the old one apart and one of the pcbs was well burnt out.
