What a horrible thing to happen. IMO your son did absolutely the right thing. As the old saying goes, a good deed never goes unpunished.
Did you ever find out what happened to the other guy or the girl? 0 -
My Son is sure he was never issued with a caution the Police at the station where very sympathetic and as i said even told him that they would have done the same thing. A few days later my son was in town and he saw the 2 of them together he approached them the guy turned his head away but he said to the girl obviously you havent learned, and walked away. A bit less than Half the £700.00 was for the training which he completed the other chunk was for the licence people, who said he could appeal but wouldn't accept it then they told him that he could take them to a small claims court but in most cases the Judge would abide by thier decision  and went through all the usual scare tactics of informing him he would be liable for all the court costs  I really dont know the point of this thread was, I was sort of hoping for some advice so he could claim some of his money back and to vent some anger. The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0

As I said, the best advice is to take it up with the police station where the caution was issued. Maybe he didn't receive a formal caution (as he thinks) and it's been recorded wrongly? If he did, then maybe the evidence can be re-examined and the caution removed from his record?
It seems the training company is probably acting within it's rights and your gripe should be about getting the caution in the first place, particularly if your son should want to apply for any other job that requires a clean record.
If you manage to get the caution resided then he can re-approach the company with regards getting the licence. The other option would be to read thoroughly the T&Cs for the training package and look for loopholes and if necessary pursue through court. The former is definitely preferable though!0 -
Unfortunately accepting a caution is often considered to be a easy out at the police station. In some cases it might be but there are a long list of jobs from which a person receiving one will be automatic barred and will be exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, a doorman is one. As far as I am aware in your sons case he will need 3 years clear before a licence will even be considered.
There have been suggestions to take it up with the police station. For this your son will need to put in a Police Subject Access Request to find out what information they hold on him. (excepting intelligence matters) this will cost £10 however trying to get a caution rescinded is whist not impossible, very difficult.
As far as I can see your best trying to get your money back or at least a reasonable proportion, and if the training people are playing silly sods that means the small claims court. Forget them talking about costs ect they are trying scare tactics however whether the judge awards for your son its difficult to say on the information given."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
