I had my eyes tested in Feb 06 & again in Aug 06, both eye tests carried out at rayners opticians by 2 different opticians working for Rayners. The last test I had in August, the optician advised me that there hadn't been a significant change in my sight so wouldn't need new glasses unless I fancied a change of frames. So I deceided to go for another pair using a different frame.
I was putting some documents away, and spotted my earlier prescription. I deceided to check it against the newer prescription. To my shock and horror, neither prescription was the same, in fact there was a significant discrepancy between the 2 prescriptions. I won't post all the info, but basically the Feb prescription shows my sight as -13.75 in the right eye & -12.25 in the left eye, the Aug prescription shows my sight as -16.25 in the right eye & -13.50 in the left.
I just can't believe it. The new glasses haven't arrived back from the workshop yet, so I haven't a clue which prescription is correct, so my glasses are going to be invalid to. The glasses themselves are costing me an absolute fortune as it is without out this as well. Please check my previous post regarding the cost ect of my glasses http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=244429
I seriously need some advice on where I stand with this and what I should do about it.

In fact, just double checked the prescriptions, and the Feb one dosen't even indicate + or - :rolleyes:0

Maybe one of them was written down incorrectly? I would go back to Rayners and ask them to explain the inconsistencies.Gone ... or have I?0

are there any other numbers on it? many prescriptions consist of SPHERE/CYL/AXIS and they can be written in 2 different forms, so that what looks like different prescriptions are exactly the same. if you put in the numbers exactly as written on your prescription i'll see if i can figure them out (i'm an optician BTW)Wiggly:heartpulsFB0

Yes but this would be no good if I was to take my prescription as it is now to another optician. The other optician would only go by what was written on my prescription.0 -

Feb prescription: sph 13.75 cyl 2.75 axis 76 ( no + or - indicated) right eye
" 12.25 " 150 " 92 " " " " left eye
Aug prescription: sph -16.25 cyl +2.50 axis 165 right eye
" -13.50 " +1.25 " 12 and a half left eye
Hope you make sense of those0 -
wishiwasarichgirl is right, there are two ways of writing a prescription, its a universally used method and any optician will know what it translates to. Some opticians use one method for ease in the manufacturing process.
The prescription as you have written is appears to be the case here, dont worry too much about this until you have the specs ~!!

Funnily enough, glasses arrived today. Went to Rayners to collect them, and I also mentioned the prescription. The receptionist mathmatically worked the prescription out in front of me, and it is as you say.. thankfully The glasses are lovely too :j
