My OH has his own business and it is pretty well established so it should be fairly secure and he won't be made redundant. I don't plan rushing things though and will definitely be trying to manage without my wage for a while before I do anythingdefinite.

Childcare is not too much of an issue. I have 4 but 3 grown up in their 20's. My youngest is 14.

I think the idea of working part time is a good one. The problem is my job is a manager would be difficult to do part time, though possibly job sharing my be an option.

I have a great fear of looking back on my life and feeling I wasted it doing a job which I hate and is incredibly stressful when I should have spent my time doing the things I love with the people I love
but obviously this needs to be balanced with being financially sensible. I know I will get there eventually. Thanks for the advice everyone:)

No idea about sausages - sorry, but I make "burgers" all the time (and fattier mince works better than lean for this!). Got some bargain (use by today) lamb mince in Co today and made greek/moroccan style patties (kofta?) with lots of parsley, coriander and onion out of the garden, cumin, ginger, chilli and cinnamon. Think you're meant to put raisins in as well but I didn't have any. They were delicious. DS has just wandered downstairs and eaten two more out of the six I was going to save for another meal. Grr!

ETA Meant to say hello cheapskate. I well remember the toddlers and teenager combination. Everyone always thinks you are so lucky to have a built in babysitter but they don't know the half of it!

Remember my mum having a mincer when we were kids - held onto the table via suction, then she minced up all sorts of meat for meals, also used it for doing baby food etc.

Im sure the squashes in the supermarket are old - the one I got yesterday had a hard leathery skin but the inside was perfect. Made baby food out of it along with sweet potatoes for little man - he loved it and it cost pennies for tubs and tubs. Cant wait till i get my new liquidiser - 10 quid Mr T - and he can have roast dinner!

Well in winter we get a lot of powercuts and I can honestly say I dont mind living without it at all. But I've never gone more than 5 days :) I think most daily jobs could be managed without it, even to the laundry if you put your mind to it. A lot depends on what kind of heating/cooking fuel you have obviously. You can dry clothes at a coal fire (but you cant iron them! ) And you can get wind-up radios, but not wind-up tv.. But sooner or later you'd miss your internet friends.
