Just like to say how I feel vindicated (and smug lol) about going really OS after the total chaos Scotland was reduced to. We had
No buses for a week
No schools for a week
No post for a week
No diesel or petrol - still ongoing
Online shopping deliveries - still ongoing
Some sites like Boots have stopped taking orders from Scotland altogether which messes up xmas shopping.
So if I'd still been doing what I did 20 years ago we would be really desperate, snowed in & unable to leave the village at all for ten days.
We did eat a good part of my wee stash and I'm starting to replace that now, as the weather I think will be back.
Carry on stashing ladies !0 -
Im miffed my post disappeared again!
Mardatha its great when your planning works isnt it. Ive hardly been near the shops since 15th November cos of the builders and the weather and am really pleased with myself. I did take OH out one day in the snow and he got knocked over by a car - luckily no broken bones but terribly shook up. We only walked a few yards from the car park to one shop. dont know of it would have been worse with the wheelchair cos he might have been squashed instead of knocked across the road onto the pavement. We stayed in after that !
Slowly but surely I am finding all the stuff I packed away, my dried yeast turned up today so can dust off the breadmaker at last.
I have spent the time making things for Christmas and for mine and Dd's house so we are all snug now. Its only thanks to all of you on here that I have been motivated to get stuff done and it proves to me how important my Pc is especially when Im so housebound.
Hope Mardatha and all our other friends who live in the middle of no where are all having a respite from the snow and recharging their batteries :beer:Clearing the junk to travel light

Ginny, that's awful, your poor husband. Very frightening for both of you, so pleased he's Ok.
I agree about the internet, I'd be lost without it too.0 -

Oh Ginny, I hope your OH is OK after that.
Mardatha, good to hear that you are seeing good results - hope you get your stash refilled before it's needed again!
OH is panicing here as he has to travel most of this week and part of next, and is concerned about us (DD and I) being here in bad weather without him. I'm more worried about not getting all of Christmas done (haven't done any cards or wrapping yet) and he being away means I should get ots more done in the evenings!!
And I handed over the stockings to my sis yesterday, so all the siblings will fill those with little things for everyone else. So another job done and ticked off!!GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

get that stash built back up quick Mar, artic blast coming again at the end of the week and according to the bbc no sign of it going till the new year:eek:

So are we all prepared for the next arctic blast? Im hoping I am, got supplies stashed. Christmas mainly sorted, got a few things to make and the tree to put up. Nearly got rid of the bronchitis but must stock up on lemons as the ones in the freezer have been used up. Oh is still poorly and has lost even more weight, but have got lots of healthy soups frozen ready for being housebound again. I am getting lots of useful gifts of everyone this year as I dont need smelly stuff, though I do like a bit of luxury. My Ds has somehow hidden an ironing board in the house, I havent had a new ironing board for years but as Ds does his own ironing and we both hate my old board he knew exactly what kind we need. He is a true O/s kind of guy and hunts out bargains like all of us. Got a rocking horse for Dgs not a fancy one and more of a pony but it is preloved and needs a new saddle so I hunted out a piece of soft leather I had stashed and thats my job for tomorrow!
Hope everyone is warm and draught free, where ever you areClearing the junk to travel light

Ginny, or anyone else, how do you freeze lemons? Are they still in big enough pieces when defrosted to squeeze into hot lemon and honey drinks? Would it be easier just to freeze the juice?
I'd never thought of freezing lemons before.
Thanks
