My Halifax CHAPs problems

I'm new to this forum, but I wanted something to do while sitting waiting on the phone while I attempt to sort out a CHAPS transfer with the Halifax.

My sister is supposed to be buying a house today, and all she is waiting on is some money (over 150K....my life savings!) that I agreed to lend her as a bridging loan. In order to get the house today she needs it in her account by midday. I phoned the Halifax yesterday morning to organise a CHAPS transfer and I was told the money would be in her account this morning, but at 8.30 this morning it was still in my account, so I phoned HBOS again. After a considerable wait, it turned out that there was no record of my requested CHAPS transfer, so after about an hour, the request was redone. As an hour and a half later the money still hadn't moved, I phoned again, to be put on hold for ages. Now, I have been told, it is being processed, apparently, and they can guarantee that it will be done before 5pm, which means that my sister's house buying

I'm really annoyed and I'm wondering who I can complain to to make them get a move on. I also want everyone to know how rubbish HBOS have been.

I hope in a few months times you won't be posting on the house prices forum complaining your sister has your lifesavings and hasn't returned them.....

Ask to speak to a supervisor on the phone

You could make a formal complaint but that won't get you anywhere today

Why didn't you just send the funds earlier if she was planning to buy a house?

If a chaps payment is made, as long as it is made before around 12 - 1 pm, it should arrive by the close of business the same day. If after 12 - 1pm, it should be the end of business the next day.

I am sure 1:30pm is the cut off for CHAPS payments to arrive in the recipients account the same day.

It's later than that ....... the CHAPs 'lines' close around 1530 hrs but each Bank will set it's own deadline to achieve payments within that.

Lloyds for example is 1500hrs :-

But if you're instructing on the same day you expect the payment to be made ...... then there will be an earlier time in order to accommodate the checks that need to be made before the actual payment is issued eg :

You could not have made a telephone call for a CHAPS payment - it would have to be in person.

    Troll alert perhaps?

There is no bank that guarantees to get a Chaps to another account at a certain time on the same day. Providing you do it by the cut off time they can only guarantee it by the close of business. If you wanted the payment there by 12pm you should have done it the day before.
