Low Rate Mobility to Higher Rate - Not Sure What To Do.

During a recent x-ray appointment I was asked if I get mobility for my arthritis. I do not, I get lower rate because I am blind and I sent a renewal form off about three weeks ago saying nothing has changed. If I now want to make a claim for the higher rate of mobility what do you folks reckon I should do? Wait until I've had the decision for my current renewal which could be another couple of months, or just put a new claim form in?
Cheers.
Cheers.

How far are you able to walk?Gone ... or have I?0

Given the current situation it may be difficult to get what you are entitled to, nevertheless you should try. Just write and state what you have said here and ask to be re-assessed. AFIK, if you can walk more than 100 yards you will probably be refused."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks for the replies.
I don't really know how far or fast I walk. I'll try to get out later and time myself up the street and back when I have someone to go with me. The big worry I face at the moment is if I end up needing crutches or even a wheelchair I'll be stumped because I currently use a white cane when out even in familiar places. Life sucks right now.
EDIT: Just measured the bit of road I'll walk on Google maps and it's 62-and-a-bit metres. Off the top of my head I reckon it would take me ten minutes to walk to the end, a bit of a rest maybe another ten minutes, then ten minutes back. I could do it quicker but it gets too painful so I deliberately walk slowly. As I say I'll go out a bit later and time myself.Only 3% of those registered blind in the UK have zero vision.0 -
I would wait for the Renewal decision, if you don't agree with it then go and ask for a reconsideration and provide the additional information then. Make sure the additional information covers your increased mobility and care needs as your actual condition and medication doesn't make any difference to DLA.
Hope all goes well.:cool:0 -

Thank you.
I went for a walk last night and it took 4 minutes 37 seconds to do the 60 metres, I rested for about 10 mins then walked back in 7 minutes 12 seconds. The walk back was harder because of the pain, and it took quite a while when I got home for it to ease. As I've said I can walk faster but the pain is unbearable so I deliberately walk slowly.Only 3% of those registered blind in the UK have zero vision.0 -
Other advice when you're updating DLA with information would be only to tell them distance you can walk "without" being in pain, which I imagine will be less than the 60 metres. By the sounds of things you might only be able to walk 5-10 metres before you feel actual pain, if even.
This would give you a better chance if you tell them how far you can walk before the pain kicks in.0 -

You might do better to ask for a referral to a pain clinic to try to get the pain under control. Is the pain in one joint or several?0
