Could someone give me some advice please...

Hi MSE members.

I am trying to cut down my monthly expenditure, starting with the things that are not really needed.

I was living in a flat and took out Sky+ as I didn't need to install a dish (communal dish) in March. I had to move out of the flat in May as my Mum got sick and she needed to be looked after, so I phoned Sky and explained to them that I was moving house, no I couldn't get a new dish installed and could I either cancel the contract (no go, am in a 12 month) or reduce it significantly, which I did - down from £30 to £18 (for just one package).

Mum is now much better and I have finally moved in with my boyfriend; we're renting for the time being and I've not approached the landlord about having a Sky dish installed (I'm a bit scared :o ) - but it seems silly to be paying £18 for something I'm not using.

I know I'm in a contract, but is there any way of getting out of this firstly, and secondly, is the £18 they are quoting me for the rest of my contract correct? Looking at different posts it seems some people are getting different deals.

Many thanks in advance, if I don't reply straight away it's because I'm on a rubbish internet connection (which I will be asking questions about later, heh).

    1. Why are you or your boyfriend scared to ask your landlord a simple every day request?
    2. Dropping you level of service may well have put you in a new 12month contract from that day.

You don't enter a new contract by changing your TV package with Sky. If you died they would cancel it, but you wouldn't be able to get Sky again.

I disagree that it's an "everyday" request, after all it's not something you ask for repeatedly, but it's neither here nor there. We've had to ask for a lot of different things since we've moved in and I don't want to bombard them with questions, plus having a dish installed in a very small annexe flat may cause a problem. Anyway...

As for starting a new contract, no, because you can select to reduce your package at any time. I started off on £28 and have reduced to one package rather than 3 + movies.

I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experience...
