  • I used to work for them and the reply we always got in store is that Advantage Points are marketed as a luxury for people to treat themselves and to save up for things. In other words, they'd rather you saved them up and not spend them, hoping I think that if you lose your card you won't bother getting another one.

You have to have enough points to pay for the item in full.

Yes, and there are also a few items that are excluded:

Looking at the receipt it looks as if Advantage Card points are set up as a different "currency", so can't be mixed with Sterling? Stupid rule, especially for people wanting to make bigger purchases, i.e. in the photo department!
  • You have to have thw whole amount in points to buy something

i remember this once when i wanted to get some perfume & they would not allow me to pay the remaining couple of pound
  • The reason you can't mix points an cash is that they give 4p per pound spent in points more than Tesco's etc and they are only able to do this if it is kept seperate. In other words you would get far less points if you used them to part pay for your shopping & there would be no incentive to save them for bigger purchases, also when you do save up and "treat" yourself by redeeming your points it feels more like a freebee and not just something that cost less. I work for Boots and I am still amazed at the amount of regular shoppers who still won't have a card, (its no good having the attitude that prices should be cheaper instead of reward schemes, as it is only them that are loosing out!) especially new mums who would earn a fortune in points!

my triple points on huggies didnt work.

i requested a new triple points on huggies card from boots and am still waiting 8 months later.

i should have followed it up but i find pampers much more manageable.

Yes people like me! I don't like Boots being able to track what I buy when and where. I won't have a nectar card for the same reason nor a Tesco credit card. I do have a club card which I use for Petrol ( £100 a week we spend on the stuff) and then I will use it sporadically if I feel like it to confuse them!

Huge databases are being built from these loyalty cards which I find quite frightening. My privacy is worth more to me than a few pence off.

The Advantage of the Boots card (Pardon the pun) is if you use your card for all your purchases, especially mums, if an item is recalled, Boots send out a letter direct to you, eg the recent Parasol recall, which most mums were unaware of until they got the letter, when item is returned a full refund is given regardless of condition. Therefore a small price to pay for peace of mind regarding Quality & Safety of the products you buy.
