    Several people have asked if you opted for legal fees cover, but you haven't answered. I bet that means 'no'. Which is a shame because you would probably have a legal helpline number you could have rung for free advice on this, if you had the cover.

    I still prefer to buy my insurance through a broker. No it isn't the cheapest, but when to comes to making a claim, a GOOD broker should help with the negotiations.

    why would anyone select an £850 excess? unless they were prepared ot pay that much out in the forst place

    When you're trying to insure oddball imports, it's often hard to get a low excess.

    I did bloody well to get £250 on my Cefiro, my last import (the Legacy B4) I couldn't get better than a £650 excess unless I wanted to pay a couple of grand more on my insurance. Was particularly annoying on the Legacy as all the metal bodywork was the same as the UK car, except for the bonnet.

    Huh, I did say that I didn't have much choice who insured this car, Tesco was the only one at the time that did!
    £850 excess is the best they offered, so it's a case of take it or drive without insurance.
    Maybe I'll do that ay , and save a few quid, seems most people round here manage to get away with out.
    It is a glass claim, bet you wouldn't be happy paying £850 and losing your no claims for a poxy sunroof!!!
    Will re-iterate, full no claims, fully comp, legal protection, 25years plus of accident free driving, never put in an insurance claim before, anything else you would like to know:rotfl:

    As you have legal protection, you can use this to pursue the nursery owner. If it comes to needing court action, they will pay the court fees etc (providing they think you will win).

    While this is probably too late for this time around, but look into the same companies that insure the Jap performance imports as they will at least know what they're dealing with. For example SXOC maintain a decent list here: http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=153266

    A-Plan in particular are pretty good though you have to ring the number on that page, which puts you through to the Thatcham branch, and then ask for the imports team. Others there have had good experiences with Sky Insurance, and Chris Knott also seem to be up-and-coming in this area. The general consensus is to avoid Adrian Flux like the plague, however.

    Of course, many of these are brokers and it's the quality of the underwriters that really matters. A-Plan are very good at chasing up the underwriters for you, but we have still had bad experiences with some, most notably Markerstudy who have zero interest in defending their own insured, preferring to just pay out and eat your no-claims bonus and Equity Red Star whose protected no-claims bonus is completely worthless, one claim and you are fine, two and it's literally as if you never had any protection, 4years NCB loss. They also need constant pestering to chase the 3rd party back for money they owe, to the point that I ended up paying for the cost of the repairs myself (cheaper than losing another 2 years NCB) and eventually had to threaten them with the small claims court as it was coming up to the 3 year limit for claims.

    Steady looby, ignore the taunts, didn't notice you had legal protection but as quentin says that is a big advantage.

    Thanks for this, renewal is due on the 20th of this month, will see if these come as a better option. This is why i love these forums.:beer:

    If your insurance is so close to renewal think twice about putting in any sort of claim that will count against your NCB until they successfully get payment out of somebody. That is to say, pretty much anything but a windscreen claim.

    This is poor advice. As the OP is only making a glass claim, is it intended as general advice to all of us as well?

    When you have an incident you want to claim over, then you are bound by your policy conditions to make the claim as soon as possible. Additionally the third party may claim against you, and the first notification your insurer gets could come from the third party.

    You say we should wait till our insurer has got paid by the third party before we make a claim?? But how can that possibly happen?

    And an incident may mean our cars are off the road and we need a replacement car etc quickly.

    And if wanting to change insurer, the unresolved claim/incident would have to be declared to the new insurer anyway (as would a glass claim).

    It will say on your renewal form something to the effect of "have you had ony accidents or claims in the last 12 months?"

    I think this is still effectively an accident and the if the date preceeds your renewal declaration, you must declare it, or....;)
