Hi,
I intend on seller the wifes new mobile phone on Ebay as she is happy with her old one. Looking on ebay i should get around £150 for the phone. I have been reading many threads and phones seem to be a scammers target.
Could you advise me on the best steps to take as currently i would do the following;
1, Ship only to the UK
2, Payment can be Paypal or cheque (would like to avoid paypal but i will get less for the phone)
3, Assuming paypal ship only to a verified address
4, Ship via special delivery
I thought about using pre approved bidders, however, this will prevent last mimute bidders and could give me a lower finish price.
If i take these steps would I be safe from a chargeback?

How to avoid a chargeback....don't use Paypal.
You say you might get a lower price, well you might, but are you taking into account the fees you will pay on £150 by Paypal. This may make the non paypal price not that far off.
Just make it clear in the auction and be totally honest with your buyers. Offer to give them more details, like a phone number to reasure them.
This worked for me.0 -
how abotu offer it at at BIN with best offer, price your phone at BIN alittle higher than what they seem to be going for and you should get an offer of what you will be happy with. works for me everytime.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0

Set your buyer requirements here: make them strict.

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Do not BIN, set as an auction and end it at a time where you can watch the bids come in.
I have sold several phones and have never had a scammer yet..I do put in my listing though that I am aware of the 419 scams and will not ship my phone to anyones brother, pastor or cat overseas.

Disagree with you here Soo, BIN with immediate payment to UK buyers is the way to do it.
Why would you get less with BIN? If I was buying it I would reserach the market an know exacyly wht the phones were worth and bid accordingly. On most occasions I really can not be bothered with the hassle of waitin, so a nice competitive BIN would be my method of choice and you might get more. You say you expect £150 so put it on at that maybe with a start of £140.0 -

Trouble is with that is that if a buyer came on here and said they were going to buy a mobile on ebay using a bank transfer we would tell them to run a mile. Most buyers of high end goods will want to protect themselevs against scam sellers by using paypal, not offering it will seriously restrict the bidders.
