Insurance for a phone off eBay

I bought a phone off eBay a while ago but haven't been using it as my primary handset until now. I have the original Carphone Warehouse receipt, but obviously it doesn't have my name on it. I was wondering if there is an insurance company that would be able to cover me, given the circumstances.

Your home insurance will cover you on your "away from home" cover. If you don't have "away from home" cover, you can specify the phone for inside and outside cover for a fraction of the cost of a mobile phone insurance policy.

As for proof of ownership, log back on to e-bay and print off a copy of the invoice/receipt. It should be there and if you paid by paypal, you should be able to get the information from their site too. Do it now, before it disappears.

Would you be able to suggest some policies such as this, particularly those that I would be able to take out for only a few months should I need to?

Sorry, but you need to have Home Contents Insurance. Do you live in your own home or with family? If you are with family, ask them whether they can add it to their policy (you'll have to pay). If you are on your own, you need to get yourself some insurance. It should cost you less than you'd pay for most mobile phone insurances and it covers:

Everything you own that's in the house
Everything you take out of the house (optional)
    Accidental Damage (optional)
Your Liability to others both in your home (someone slipping on some water) and out (you breaking someones windscreen with a golf ball)
Your mobile phone (provided you specify it)

    Hope this helps.

Yes, I don't currently have home contents insurance and wouldn't really know what a good policy is. I currently live on my own, but I am not sure how long I will be here as I might be moving away to university in a few months.
