vista and 7 have big issues with the Ricoh card reader chip - use the modified Dell driver version
You should have a grey or black driver CD with your laptop, but it's a right PITA to install from - grab the latest from Dell's website.
no available usb downloads on dell support site
have just looked for Dell Inspriron 1750 latest USB driver0 -
Yeah, i'm using win 7 on an inspiron 6000 and that took a bit of playing around with unofficial drivers and oh, compatability mode for a certain program...Quickset.exe I'm looking at you:cool:0

look up Intel chipset drivers - they control the USB function on Dells
A handy tip for installing Dell drivers (mainly for Win7 users trying Vista drivers that go 'oh you have Win7, I refuse to install'):while the 'wrong operating system' message is still open, use Device Manager to Update Driver and manually browse to the numbered folder. The drivers are ready and waiting, but get deleted when you close the error message.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer

go to dell.co.uk and click Support, then choose Drivers and Downloads - put in your serial number and you'll be given a list of drivers that exactly match your laptop. Choose the correct operating system to get the matching driver for your card reader.
Which operating system did you install btw?
Phew, the annoying warning has gone
looks like I've sorted it
Looked up the usb drivers, found one related to a card reader
installed it and hey-presto
thanks to all for tips and advice
now that's sorted, it looks like I've got to install/update Windows 7
so I could be back soon:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
thanks again0 -
