Hi,
I have just had to reinstall the operating system on my Dell Inspiron1750, due to a faulty hard drive
so far things appear to be going smoothly
however I have a "Safely remove hardware" USB warning in the taskbar in the bottom right corner
the problem is there is nothing connected to any usb port on the laptop
can anyone shed any light on this, every time I log on this warning indication appears
this has only happened since reinstalling the new hard drive/operating system (vista premium)
any help/advice would be appreciated

Agree, with previous poster. When you click the bubble, does it elaborate on what the hardware is0

when I click on the bubble
this opens a Safely Remove Hardware Box
inside the main window, its states USB MASS Storage
below/outside the box it states
USB Mass Storage at Port_#0005.Hub#0004
hope this clear helps
thanks0 -

Ok, well unless you have another connected it must be the card reader. I would uninstall your USB's from the device manager and reboot the system. You might have to reboot again once you log in if it asks you to.0 -
just to make things clear, I have not got anything, or since reinstalling the operating system, I have not used any of the USB connections
hence can't understand why I have this warning to remove device
have also deleted the usb device
USB Mass Storage at Port_#0005.Hub#0004
this made no difference, still had the warning symbol :mad::mad:0 -
go to dell.co.uk and click Support, then choose Drivers and Downloads - put in your serial number and you'll be given a list of drivers that exactly match your laptop. Choose the correct operating system to get the matching driver for your card reader.
Which operating system did you install btw?IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer

I can't really think of anything other than a new driver download, as this would be consistant with reinstalling an OS0

will have a look at that, thanks
I have installed vista home premium, via the disc's supplied from Dell
have spent the last night & tonight running all the updates0 -
vista and 7 have big issues with the Ricoh card reader chip - use the modified Dell driver version
You should have a grey or black driver CD with your laptop, but it's a right PITA to install from - grab the latest from Dell's website.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer
