Talk Talk nown own Pipex

Just had some sales people round trying to promise us a better internet connection. We are with Pipex and apparenlty, according to said salespeoples, they are now owned by Talk Talk. Is this true? Can we really expect a better deal? Or has my mother just had her lack of internet savvy been played on (i hate to say it, but she doesn't like turning doorsteppers/cold callers away because it seems rude).

Never sign up to an Internet 'deal' on the back of a cold call.
Does she have a BT line? Use this Broadband Availability Checker to find out what broadband is available in her area and then come back to ask us for advice.
Ideally you would like to see LLU availability.0 -
I'm leaving Pipex. Been with them 7 years, always been ok, last 2 months my "up to 8mb" speed is averaging - get this - 400kbps.
Just trying to find a reliable alternative but they are toast. That is garbage.0 -
Ah Pipex. I remember them well. I used to use them in the days of dial up (anyone remember that?
) and while they weren't the cheapest, they were generally excellent.
When my area became broadband enabled, I moved to Freedomtosurf and stayed with them for a few years because they were pretty good too. They were then, ironically, taken over by Pipex, and started to go drastically downhill. Constant outages, dropped connections, very high ping rates etc. And the technical support was a joke. They never answered the phone, and only started to answer my emails 3 months AFTER I bit the bullet and moved to Sky broadband (who I've been with ever since and would thoroughly recommend).
I've never been with Talk Talk, but have heard lots of horror stories about them. If Pipex really have been taken over by them, then I'd be very wary about using Pipex.0 -
I have a similar dilemma with Nildram. They were excellent - expensive but you get what you pay for.
They have been taken over by Talk Talk too.
I didn't mind paying £17 a month for a 6 Meg connection that is always up but I find myself seeing speeds of 500k recently unless I reboot my router.0
