I'd prefer a time limited pension. Pay me a decent pension for 10 years and then reduce to half a decent pension over ten years. I'd adjust my lifestyle accordingly.

I think there will be many more 'Raoul Moats' before this government is finished.

    Unelectable for a generation.

Apparently it is not the UK government that is discussing this, but the EU – this matter is also being discussed on the pensions board.

If anything like this, detrimental to pensioners and those that are shortly to retire, were to be brought in, it would surely be illegal. The agreement between employees and private companies is private, not something that the EU and governments should meddle with. It's a different matter, of course, when it comes to public pensions funded with taxpayers' money.

!!!!!!, this has nothing to do with the EU.

Govt always blames the EU when they f**k up.

How's things in the civil service Humphrey?

Is it stressful with a new government alongside proposed cuts?

It's not the government who are 'blaming' the EU!

Well there are always new games for our 'impartial' civil servants to play. Like feeding Michael Gove duff information...

Um... you do understand that in the UK, the government gets to change the law*? That they intend, by fiat, to change the law? That, once they have changed the law this won't be illegal?

    * Because in the UK, government can't sustain itself without a majority of the house of commons.

I thought that too! :) Someone did him up a cropper.
It reminded me of the 'Yes Prime Minister' series.

Well, yeah, or they could just be incompetant people who couldn't find their !!!!!! with an ordinance survey map.

Never put down to conspiracy what you could put down to people being incredibly stupid.

No, the reason Gove screwed up is because he rushed through a decision too quickly without proper consultation. Were he competent, he would have spent more time making the decision and consulted with the affected schools to bring in alternative funding methods for those schools in the most need.

Trying to blame other people...reminds me of someone...

The same mistake is being made over pensions.

There is a good reason why decision making is slow in govt. This is to stop people getting peed off and then either seeking judicial review or suing your !!!!. Once the lawsuits are dealt with, I doubt cancelling BSF will save a penny over the next few years. This is the exact reason why it is impossible to cut deficits quickly by cutting public spending.

Anyway, we are heading OT here.
