If your smart with your email address you should never recieve any
Always have 2 email addresses one for personal mail and the other for forums/facebook/purchases/ebay etc etc that way you will never get junk to your main account
Never reply to an email as that confirms it exists
Never 'unsubscribe' to a junk email, newsletters should be fine
Never post your email address anywhere public on the internet
Always tick/untick the box thats says you don't want updates etc0 -
I get spam email saying it's from HSBC which is odd as I don't have a current account with them.
Also, the email address is sent to is an address that can't be deleted! It's the rule of the ISP I'm with, they do go into my spam but I always check spam box. Occasionally I get email that is needed, this particular email address I never give to forums, facebook etc.
So a mystery how they have my email:o0 -
If only! I've had spam to a just created account that was known only to myself and the ISP.If your smart with your email address you should never recieve any

I'd say have at least three addresses, one for friends, one for banks and other important stuff, and one fore facebook and social sites.
See if your mail provider accepts addresses like economiser+mse@example.com which would go to the economiser@example.com mailbox (if it existed), with the plus sign separating the real user-name from the tag which helps identify where the sender got the address from.
If so, whenever you sign up to anything, include a different +tag as part of the address, and be extra suspicious of any mails without a tag. You can also use the tags for sorting your mail.
They send out millions of mails, some of the recipients will have HSBC accounts, the spammers aren't interested in the rest, but it costs them nothing.I get spam email saying it's from HSBC which is odd as I don't have a current account with them.

They probably don't have your email, they just made it up.
Spammers and phishers have lists of common, and not so common, names, and lists of ISPs providing mail services, and just send out millions of spam mails by combining the two.Eco Miser
