Hi honey!
Why is it things always decide to start going wrong right before Christmas?Broken washing machine being one of the most used and needed appliances in the house, I know I'd find it a worry and a stuggle without one so I'm REALLY hoping it'll hold on long enough to give you time to arrange for collection of the other one.
Sorry a day at home still cost you money, kids eh? they've a lot to answer for! Hope all yours spoil you with treats at Christmas, drop a few hints at how much you do for them with birthday parties you throw for them and the mess you clear after, furry jars of sauce that get wasted, petrol prices etc etc....then pull out the big guns and hit 'em with the 40weeks of carrying them around, any stretch marks they caused and morning sickness you suffered... and the hours and hours of labour!!! :A (Yes I know they're all worth it & we wouldn't be without them but it doesn't hurt to remind them how grateful they should be!!:rotfl:I mean, didn't we do enough to get them here in the first place?:rotfl:
Ended up with 6-8 inches of snow, rained Friday night so still some snow but lots of ice yesterday, all gone now. Gutter's still not done, ask me again next Christmas.
Lots of worries you've had this year, I truely hope you're blessed with a worry free Christmas and that good fortune is with you throughout 2011. :A
Take care hun & talk again soon, really looking forward to those mince pies!

Me tooIt's looking hopeful for collecting it at the end of this week but we shall see. (Takes a deep breath).

Hehe, you make me laugh! I think mine would all go green at the gills if presented with the stretch marks!:D I'm glad I didn't discover I couldn't afford kids before I had them, though.
I am definitely not the person I was in those far-off days and I expect you know from experience exactly what I mean. We weren't always this tough and cynical, were we?! LOL

Neither's ours - but I was reading about snow damage to gutters so it's got me thinking - we could have saved ourselves from having the job to do twice.

Thanks hun - you too.

Sshhh - here - have one while no-one's looking. The calories don't count that way either. There'll be plenty more on the day and we ought to sample them really, just to make sure they're all right. And you don't mind helping me with that, do you?Miggy

Spent a couple of hours today shovelling ice off the icerink road - frst hour and a half or so was like a workout. After that it was a case of building up the punishment I'll feel tomorrow or the day after!
It was a bit of a gamble: if the thaw continuess, those paths will widen. If it freezes tonight, I'll have created little patches of pure ice. It seems to be freezing! Argh! And DD and I both have to out early to get to work.Miggy

Not a lot of money saving going on here! Well, a little - had a cookery evening the other day which was frugal and fun. Other than that I have sorted out most presents and paid a train fair to the other side of the country, so the budget isn't as healthy as I'd like to be.
Mum is not only in hospital but (long story) has had to be transferred to another one for an op which will probably happen on Monday. It never rains but it pours, huh?
A nice frugal idea for Christmas stockings - a bag of microwave popcorn in each. Oh, and cake or biscuit mixes... hopefully these will extend Christmas a bit but also be (long term) clutter free.Miggy

I was just thinking yesterday that you hadn't posted in a while.
Sorry to hear Mum needs an op  Hope it goes OK, will be thinking of you on Monday.
Love the ideas for Christmas stockingsBut this time of year makes it very difficult to be frugal doesn't it?
Take care

They managed to fit mum in for her op this evening and when I phoned at about 10, she was coming round on the ward.
On the money side of things: got paid on Friday (had spent it already which isn't the position I want to be in) and DH's money comes in soon... people at work are already saying January will be a long month, as our December pay day is earlier than normal. On the plus side, a NSD day today and got a freebie cappuccino through work at a new place that's opened up in town. I may not get a Christmas bonus but I do get the occasional treat!Miggy

Mum doing okay when I phoned this morning - able to sit in a chair so she must be getting over the anasthetic.
Went grocery shopping - spent £24 plus £9 of vouchers but that included a present that I was very pleased to able to get, and the woman ahead of me spent £160+, that's after she had had about £50 worth of discounts! That made me feel better about the amount going out of our account!
I see I haven't mentioned the demise of our washing machine in the last few posts. It had been limping along but when the laundry starts to smell scorched, I think I can be fairly sure the machine is beyond safe use! This is not the best time of year for this to happen: there's no laundrette in town and handwashed things take longer to dry. We have been promised another machine by someone who's moving in the New Year, and I'm sure friends would help out, but I don't want to impose on them. (Though I will do eventually! Just don't want to be a nuisance.)
Off to start the handwashing...!Miggy

Bah to washing machines dyingWould it be worth using it to give the hand washing a quick spin? And if you were one of my pals around here you would be welcome to use mine as long as you stayed for a cuppa and a natter while it was doing itself

Aw thanks Matty - I'm always up for a cuppa and a natter!
I tried using it to spin the washing tonight, with a mixed result. The washing was undoubtedly drier when it came out, but the scorching smell is back in the machine! I certainly wouldn't leave it unsupervised. Sadly it's the spin that's worst affected.
Tonight we have a fire in the grate so the washing is drying nearby - not too near of course! I tried putting a towel on the line to dry earlier. It was quite a struggle to get the pegs off, as the whole thing froze to the line, but it provided cheap entertainment as DS2 weilded the resulting solid flag for the camera!
All kids been out today... DD ran home from the gym wearing a tee shirt!!! Not an experience to repeat, her chest went tight and she couldn't run, it was well below freezing. Thankfully she got back to normal soon. DS1 went to football - indoors - but travelled in shorts. I think he must have turned the car heating right up!Miggy
