Thanks SB
The eyes are just about back to normal now so I needed go about either winking at people of looking demure with downcast gaze!
Glad to hear it :TMum has in theory accepted help and was discharged from hospital yesterday - this could be a huge leap forward, but only if she accepts the help when it arrives! We shall see. That will probably be early next week but the doctor and Social Worker are popping in today and her neighbours will be around from Saturday night onwards so there is some 'cover', even if not quite what it should be. (Feel bad relying on neighbours etc. but couldn't do it without them). I've made sure there is plenty of food in for her.
Yay to her accepting help so far :T Don't worry about the neighbours, they must be happy to help out or they wouldn't have volunteered & she may accept it better from someone she knows rather than a stranger. Especially at weekends! My Mum had a thing about calling out professionals at the weekend and would rather suffer untll normal working hours. She rang me last night but now can't hear me at all - so we are going to have to find some alternative!
That must be frustrating for both of youHope you find a way round it - don't suppose she is techno savvy and you could use text or instant messaging? It would have been a ridiculous suggestion for my Mum
Sorry to go on and on... life is a bit dominated by Mum issues right now and it's taking up lots of time.:(
Don't worry, you are not going on, you are voicing a concern, we can empathise, sympathise and maybe one of us will come up with a suggestion that will actually help!On the other hand - think I need a clutter-busting diary somewhere then I could cheer myself on as I wade through tons of papers. I've set up new file for Mum's - old one wasn't big enough! My work papers are a bit of a mess but at least are mostly in the right place. Other than that I just need to keep sorting and recycling.
Finance-wise we are trying to sort out EMA for DD and I am trying to get more followers on my blog with a view to generating income through it eventually. I've been reading a bit about this through a link that came up on MG's diary.
Wish we got paid for rainfall... now there's a thought! I would be a multimillionnaire by now!
Paperwork, pah! I remember in the 70's when they told us we would have a paperless office and I am still waiting! Oooh, must go and investigate your blogWill check if it is your homepage.
I once got told that rain water was good for your hair, doesn't seem to do anything other than make mine look a right mess.(Digs in cupboard)

Hi miggy
Doesn't help to bottle things up my love, the worry doesn't disappear just because you don't talk about it & I think some things are easier to talk about to people other than always to OH or family, I know I do.;)
You've done everything you can possibly do to help your Mum
and I'm relieved that she is finally beginning to realise that she will need help. Please try not to worry too much, like you said, accepting the help is a major leap forward and took a lot of effort on your part. Take care of you too! :A
Glad your eyes are better, Nic has it too & mine are heading that way, we all need some early nights and restful sleeps I think!
Not sure what's available that would help with phone calls, does she have hearing aid already? Wondered if somewhere like 'help the aged' could recommend anything or anywhere to help.
Hope DD EMA gets sorted. (I'm still worrying about finding somewhere suitable for DS re work based training...there's always something!....to worry about or sort out I mean!) :rotfl:
Hope you enjoy your weekend (don't go outside...it's raining!!:rotfl:)
Night honey....you too matty!:)
Edit...blog thingy...tell me how/where etc & what I gotta do but if facebook is needed or owt..I aint got that neither!I think I was just born too soon!:)

Hi everyone and thanks for the nice replies.
Sorry, I mentioned the blog without really thinking. I've added it to my profile now. I started it way back when I was homeschooling but it's moved on to all sorts of other things now.
Maty, no, it's not a new language. I'm learning a different dialect. By nature I'm aand
sort of person.

So true! The Social Worker popped in to see her and rang me this afternoon to say all was well except the stair lift had broken down!:eek: I hastily rang the neighbour who I knew was going to be away for a while and he kindly went round, got the stairlift working again and also looked at the phone for us. He found the volume control had been lowered so put it up to max and mum and I had a real conversation!
Phew!
However mum has been known to decline the offer of paramedics when she couldn't move from her chair, on the grounds that she didn't want to get them out in the middle of the night. Never mind that they are paid for it! (I finally persuaded her at 2 am on that occasion - but she made me wait till 3 to call them!)
Mum has a mobile but I think it's too small for her to use well. I know text phones exist and am wondering if she could cope with one. She doesn't seem to be afraid of technology but it's not easy for her to remember all the sequences - it might have to be written out and pinned up somewhere but it's worth investigating.Paperwork, pah! I remember in the 70's when they told us we would have a paperless office and I am still waiting!
LOL. I worked in an office a few years ago - the buzz was all about electronic storage but important documents still had to be kept as hard copy too - there was enormous storage in the basement and current copies had a room of their own off the main office. As to what was held on computer - gazillions of things which were rarely needed again but just sometimes were called for.
The real irony was that to present the right image we would often need to test print the more official emails. Once we were satisfied it looked good enough the prints would go in the recycling and the electronic copy would be emailed! There's logic in there somewhere.SouthernBellE* wrote: »Please try not to worry too much, like you said, accepting the help is a major leap forward and took a lot of effort on your part. 2 down 1 to go (kids and jobs that is). Hope your DS finds something he'll enjoy.SouthernBellE* wrote: »Edit...blog thingy...tell me how/where etc & what I gotta do but if facebook is needed or owt..I aint got that neither!I think I was just born too soon!:)

:rotfl:Sorry Miggy, you did make me chuckle when I read about the volume on the phone being turned down! :rotfl: Hope the hospital helps out with the referal and that it doesn't take to long.
1 DS, 19 too but has SLD. He's also better with anything that's hands on, no medical name given for the disability but tests carried out at 3yrs old found 'too much brainwave activity on the speech part of the brain so everything going in or out was gobbledygook!'..Fun explaining his disability and how it affects him when applying for DLA (partly the reason I'm 5 months behind in renewing his claim!):o He didn't get accepted on an entry level course because he only managed level 1 in english (needed level 2). Don't get me started coz I'll drone on & lose the message! :rotfl:
I think your 2 that have found work have been really lucky with the way things are re employment and must have worked hard for it, (you taught them well!;))
Thanks for the blog, made a start on reading some but I can identify with your frustration over getting the right care for your Mum and in getting the authorities on board, especially when you can't see things getting better for her (just with my worries over DS). Horrible feeling for you and me when you know a solution has to be found but not sure how/where/when it's going to come.:( We'll have to spur each other on honey, whenever we find it's getting us down!
Not sure what the bookmark thingy Maty's on about is? Do I need to register? Just thought maybe some comments might be nicer left for you there instead of the forum.(my e-mails tend to go on a bit! :rotfl:)
