Work has problems of its own, so while my actual shift went okay, there were gloomy faces around for other reasons. I'm on the look out for something else and the other day saw a similar job with much better rates of pay, but I'm lacking the spark of enthusiasm right now. I think I'd quite like the increased pay just for staying at home, but haven't seen any adverts for it.I'll keep looking, though.
Your exBIL's idea is genius, it demonstrates so clearly how vulnerable people are. I think the hospital is aware of various areas of concern to the extent that they've kept her in, but perhaps they need to hear it all laid on the line again.
I spoke to the nurse today and mum's doing okay.
Meanwhile, we didn't go to the car boot sale this morning, so savings there, bought a few bits from the cheap stall on the market but only things we'd only buy when reduced, and I've posted some reading matter off to Mum. Not newspapers- she tends to keep them! At least books are smaller. Also cheaper to post and can be bought 2nd hand for the price of a couple of newspapers. I know she can buy papers there but I'll leave that to the nurses to deal with ('Has anyone seen Mrs X?' 'Oh, yes, she's there under the Sunday Telegraph!')
Tonight we're out for a meal with DS1, his girlfriend and her parents. What to wear?! What to eat?! This is another expense and the August figures aren't too good, but the place we're going to isn't too expensive and I think we'll enjoy it. We did, however, bump into a friend this morning and heard that his job is likely to end soon. As DH and DS1 are both Council employees, I think we need to be looking seriously at expenditure, just in case... but for now we all have jobs, and DD's new job have given her a prize for being mystery shopped and scoring 100%!
Plus - maybe I'll get chips tonight.Miggy

Quick update:
Mum still in hospital as they haven't got the people together to have a case conference. She is doing well and is being looked after!
I have done some bread baking with some of the bounty from Approved Food: a big batch of white rolls and another of pizza swirls have disappeared to the sound of approval and I might make more tomorrow to tide the family over while I'm at work. I made some tomato foccacia the other day which was also a success so... am I on a 'roll'?Miggy

Welcome SB! Of course I am always glad to see you - coffee & chocolate await.
So today... did a sleepover shift which means an extra £25.Most of the day free and discovered a new online game (56 Sage Street) which I managed to play all the way through so I now have square eyes - square and red, as one has conjunctivitis.
It isn't too painful but feels very unsociable. The doctor's given me chloramphenicol drops which I am hoping do the trick though so far I don't notice a lot of difference. Perhaps I should just pretend it's a deliberate fashion statement.

:hello: Hi Miggy, glad to see you were expecting me, I don't like to drop in without warning! :rotfl:
Still some catching up to do but sorry you've had some more worries with your mum and that you'd been feeling a bit under the weather, I'm glad things look a bit brighter. Keep smiling sunshine!
off to do some more reading....;)
PS...missed you too hun.:)PROUD MEMBER OF

Just drop in when you want, SB, and take me as you find me.
Though that can be a bit scary first thing in the morning especially today as due to the conjunctivitis I woke up looking like something out of a horror film. It seems to be getting better now.
No particular MS adventures today, but I've made stock with the remains of the Sunday dinner chicken, and some bread rolls for packed lunches although not all of them have made it through the evening.Miggy

Oh dear, Mondays always seem to be expensive in food terms! I think because we often feed other people then, and at the moment it 'has' to be sausage and mash as DS2 loves them and likes his routine. Granted, we all like them too, though every week can be a bit boring.
We don't do cheaper sausages any more, either. I wonder if I could reintroduce them somehow? Kids used to love the Netto ones: I don't know if the recipe was changed or I just tok my eye off the ball and let them get a taste for other varieties?!
A few spends necessary today: a card and some flowers as a couple of people need them.... I think I can do dinner from the fridge, then maybe we can actually tell what's in there! Also a hole punch: we have three but none to be found anywhere!
Had a phone call from the Social Worker today, to say mum's meeting is likely to be later this week. Urgh. Not nice. How do you deal with it when someone wants to be home, is assessed as mentally capable but can't look after themselves and refuses care? Arghhhh!:eek::eek:
Oh well. I've done everything I can think of.Miggy

I'm lurking and reading to catch up when I can but missed the conjunctivitus bit, I've been prone to it myself many times ( I think tiredness is mostly responsible when I get it because I'm constantly rubbing them!) I hope it clears up soon.
Miggy I'm sorry you are still having so much worry over your mum. I hope that when the meeting happens, you can show the authorities that she does indeed need help by using some of the suggestions mentioned, at least if they make the decision, your Mum won't be able to give you a hard time for it. I think that a lot of the older generation are much the same in wanting to hang on to their independance and stay at home and see accepting help as confirmation that they are indeed elderly and in need of help. (Frustrating!) Good luck honey, I REALLY hope the meeting goes well but stay firm and insist they listen to you, you know her best and the decisions made will affect you & your life as much as they will your Mum. I know you're not local to your Mum but you need the peace of mind of knowing that help is at hand the next time she's unable to get up from a chair. I'm sure you worry of far worse situations she could be in because you know her and her abilities best and are able to look at things more realistically than your Mum is likely to. I'm just so sorry that you're in a situation where you have to go up against everyone in doing what's best.
It's a difficult time I know so I'll be thinking of you and wishing you well.

Hi Miggy,
Popped in to see you but you weren't in!
Hope that your eyes are not giving you too much discomfort but imagine a break from trying to read through bloodshot, sticky eyes will do them the world of good.;)
Also hoping the week ends on a brighter note for you, in more ways than one.;)
And yes, you were on a roll!:rotfl:PROUD MEMBER OF

The eyes are just about back to normal now so I needed go about either winking at people of looking demure with downcast gaze!
Mum has in theory accepted help and was discharged from hospital yesterday - this could be a huge leap forward, but only if she accepts the help when it arrives! We shall see. That will probably be early next week but the doctor and Social Worker are popping in today and her neighbours will be around from Saturday night onwards so there is some 'cover', even if not quite what it should be. (Feel bad relying on neighbours etc. but couldn't do it without them). I've made sure there is plenty of food in for her.
She rang me last night but now can't hear me at all - so we are going to have to find some alternative!
Sorry to go on and on... life is a bit dominated by Mum issues right now and it's taking up lots of time.:(
On the other hand - think I need a clutter-busting diary somewhere then I could cheer myself on as I wade through tons of papers. I've set up new file for Mum's - old one wasn't big enough! My work papers are a bit of a mess but at least are mostly in the right place. Other than that I just need to keep sorting and recycling.
Finance-wise we are trying to sort out EMA for DD and I am trying to get more followers on my blog with a view to generating income through it eventually. I've been reading a bit about this through a link that came up on MG's diary.
Wish we got paid for rainfall... now there's a thought! I would be a multimillionnaire by now!Miggy
