Grants for Central Heating Installation
Comments
-
Grant available in Scotland classes storage heaters as a form of central heating and it is one of the options to choose for installation.0
-
So my application to 'upgrade' to Gas central heating won't be accepted?0
-
Applications are only considered if you have no central heating system (this includes storage heaters), or your existing system is broken and unable to be repaired.
I don't know if the grant system is running again yet. It was put on hold a few months ago while the backlog was cleared, but I've no up to date info.
Forgot to say, grants are for those over 60, not sure if it also applies to disabled.0 -
I take it your electricity tariff includes cheap off-peak juice? If you haven't already done so, now is the time to use one of these USwitch sites to see if you can get a better deal. I have a cheap-rate electricity tariff and find that ebico has a favourable night rate."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0

So I'm stuffed then, under sixty with a working electric storage heating system.....
We are on an economy system, so I presume that does drive the bills down. The main issue for wanting to change was the cost of the bills last year compared the quality of heating produced, the house was always cold leading me t o assume that the electric system was inefficient. Also there is no radiator in the living room just a real flame gas fire which takes a while to heat the room.
Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much installation of a boiler and 6 or 7 radiators would cost? This would be assuming I had already bought the parts, so just labour cost.0 -
People on benefits would be eligible for a grant, and insulation /draughtproofing should be a priority anyway.
Take care when getting a quote from a heating firm/plumber, they can expect anything up to 20% profit on the materials supplied, so may well add that to a labour only quote.0 -

I asked this same question a few weeks ago. I also approached some Corgi registered heating engineers for quotes. These ranged from 2500 to 3900 depending type of boiler, no of rads and floor type. Note - my quote was for a 2 bedroom bungalow. I don't know if it would be more for a house.0 -

1. Are you using the storage heaters correctly?
2. Why isn't one installed in the living room? What size is that room?0 -

1. Not sure, have you any tips?
2. There just isn't one installed, only been in the flat a year, i.e. I didn't fit it. I hadn't considered putting one because I prefer Gas heating.0 -

Two problems that seem to exist:
1. From this forum it seems that a lot of E7 is 'under spec' due to the cost at time of installation. That is, the heater size is insufficient for the room.
2. People not understanding the input/output controls. Quite simple, output should be closed (at lowest value) during the charging period.0
