DD2 has just moved into Unite student accommodation and they want £193 (lump sum) plus £25 installation for her lower rate internet access.
Is there any alternative?

That sounds about right and it may only be 512Kb. Although against their terms of provision, it is possible for one person to subscribe and then share the connection using wireless. This worked for three that I know who shared at a Unite property last year.
