You can - some types are actually water proof. However its a complete sod to get up if you have a leak - as I found out:mad: :rotfl:0

WHat about vinyl? No, don't switch off, i don't mean crappy vinyl. I mean the stuff which is so fabulous that you can't tell it from the "real thing". Karndean produces some incredibly wood look stuff which is absolutely perfect in the bathrooml also marble and other finishes.
From personal experience I would recommed the DaVinci range or their Hand Craftted Wood stuff (this one is in the Commercial section but you can of course use it in the home).

We have expensive proper bathroom laminate flooring in the bathroom and it's absolute pants! :mad:
The kids splash in the bath alot and water has seeped into the joints. It looks blimmin' awful just next to the bath.
I'd go for vinyl every time.
