Hello all,
I'm looking for a good freeware mp3 joiner. It's needs to be FAST as I have 48x 13 meg files to merge every day. I've tried a free one last night (can't remember what it was called) and tried to merge 3 of the files together and it took absolutely ages, like 20 mins or something ridiculous.
I've just downloaded Piston Software Direct MP3 Joiner (shareware, 30 day trial) and this does the job I want and merged 10 files in about 20 seconds. Only trouble is that it ain't free!
Last time it was a download manager I was after but I ended up buying one before seeing the replies here for good free alternatives, so I'm hoping someone has some recommendations for a good free and fast mp3 joiner before I buy this one !!!
Thanks all.

http://musicutter.szm.com/ looks like it'll do the job just fine. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

I'll take a look right now.
Btw, the freeware one I couldn't think of before is just called "Free MP3 Joiner 3.5.3" and it's insanely slow.0 -

Unfortunately too slow. Took nearly a minute and a half to join only 4 files.0 -
48 files a day, 1.5 minutes for 4 files, 18 minutes a day. Surely that's not too long? It'll probably be quite a bit faster if you save the output file to a different physical drive, if possible.
edit: mp3wrap FLIES in linux but isn't particularly fast in windows for some reason. Strange, considering it's doing little more than merging files after ripping out headers etc.
edit 2: http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html is fast. File menu, batch processing. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

I'm saving the output file to an external USB HDD.
I suppose if I had nothing better to do with my time then yeah the 18 mins is not the end of the world, but unfortunately this process is being done on my main desktop which is long overdue for replacement as it's a museum piece now, and the file merging maxes out the CPU which renders it pretty much useless for the 18 mins for doing anything else.
By contrast the $20 Direct MP3 Joiner I mentioned above can do the same 4 files in less than 5 seconds. How the hell it manages to do it I've no idea but I've checked the end result and I can't find any fault with it. There's no loss of quality and files merge seamlessly. I'm gonna continue running it on trial as there's 30 days of it so that's more than enough time for others to post their suggestions recommendations. If nothing transpires then I'll just shell out the £13.72 or whatever it works out at in real money and buy the thing.
I've actually found a faster freeware one than the musicutter and it's called Meda MP3 Joiner which merged my 4 test files in about 30 seconds which is a considerable improvement, but still lags well behind the Direct one.
Keep the ideas coming anyway, I appreciate them.0 -

That's only a cutter unfortunately.0 -
no it's not. How else would I be able to tell you it's fast? They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

There are no options to merge or join in any of the menus or on the main screen. Unless I'm going blind...
Additionally, in the feature list it only mentions cutting, nothing about joining.0 -

Hi
With mp3DirectCut the 'append' feature was dropped after v1.51.
The current version is v2.12.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0
