Something odd is happening, yesterday n today on booting my laptop you get the windows choice screen @ boot-up and a very long series of bleeps!!

The screen has been scrolling along by itself and the 'C' typing by itself!! When this happens the computer is in chaos!!!!

I have rebooted and now it is ok.

It is within a couple of days of being a month old.

What should I do, I have lots of personal word.docs stuff/itunes account etc. on it!

Keys accidentally depressed and held down. Or wedged with grit. Or something like that

All keys are the same level. I am now using a separate keyboard until know what to do!!!

I couldn't get into any progs because the 'c' was pressing all by itself!!

I don't want to hang on to it if it is a lemon but my personal data could get into the wrong hands!! (stories of computers being resold with other peoples personal data in the past)

Stuck key probably, backup to safeguard your data.

Would it be best to exchange the laptop as under a month old and how to erase docs/itunes so not accessible to others if sold on?

Has been backed up on external HDD

Is it ok now or not? If it is ok, it could just be a stuck key, which happens sometimes.

If you ever have to return it, To ensure your data is safe, do a factory restore, then install ccleaner and run with all clean options ticked to wipe your data. But make sure your backup is readable before taking this course of action.

It is ok now but has been doing it 2 days in a row!! Never got the start screen option before. The keyboard does look flimsy though.

I've seen ccleaner simple wipe etc. How would I do factory restore?

factory restore depends on the model, check the manual, you normally press a key at boot, but this will wipe all your data.

2 days in a row could still be a stuck key or a slightly bent keyboard, if it returns, run your hand over the keyboard firmly.

re ccleaner, the wipe free space is the bit that makes your data unrecoverable, if you run it on all drives after a factory restore

Should I return it (after cleaning off my data etc.) as it has been doing it 2 days in a row and still new????

Otherwise after the month is up I'll lose it for the time it is in repair and maybe a lemon!!!

May I be the 3rd? 4th? person to suggest that you need to fix the stuck key! If you can't do it (carefully) yourself, get a computer repair shop to spend 5 minutes on it...

May I say (fore-mentioned) there were no stuck keys!!! All keys were the same height.

Anyway I have exchanged the laptop for another make after a bit of a kerfuffel. I didn't want to be stuck with a lemon!!!!

I am using a wireless keyboard so the keys won't get a chance to stick!!!
