Laptop won't connect to (Orange) internet and not an internet issue apparently!!!

Just a few other questions, does your internet have a wireless key on it? i.e have you set up a password on it? Does your router name appear when you go Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right click on 'Wireless Network Connection' icon > View Available Wireless Networks - name appears in list.

Does it appear in the list (click refresh a few times if the list is blank) If so, what is the signal strength like? (Number of green bars next to the Network name - a full 5 bars.

To be honest, if you installed an update before this happened then it's probably thrown some settings out. This used to happen with XP and SP2. but as it's Vista, there could be a whole number of issues! Any idea what update you installed? - 3 updates 1 of which was IE8, can't remember the other 2

Apologies to any posters / readers of this thread, thought I had already posted an update (but apparently not).

In the end, I restored the laptop back to factory settings and moved back little things (like internet favourites etc) once restored and it has worked (proven by the fact I am posting on this forum using the broadband connection and not my phone ).

Many thanks to all who posted suggestions to try to help resolve the issue.
