i am not so sure about the customer service being head and shoulders above the rest
That was my opinion on the various dealerships I have worked at.
my moms nearly 3 year old polo has done 6000 miles and is on long life servicing VW dealer wanted in excess of £200 to do a service at 12 months old when it had around 3.5k miles on clock it was not even due a service.they insisted it was and stated warranty would be void if it was not serviced.after speaking with VW HQ it was agreed service was not due until 2 years old based on the low mileage
Your mum's car was on the wrong service interval if she does such low mileage. The idea of Longlife is that the car will still be seen approximately once a year, but it's for the higher mileage road users (rep's & cabbies) who will do 10,000 in a few months, so they don't have to visit the dealer every 5/6months. With a 20k interval they still only come in once a year and indirectly reduce their service bills.
needless to say it did not go to VW but was instead done at a local specialist using VW parts and spec so as such keeping warranty intact all done for £110.
I hope for your sake they used the correct oil and service schedule, as you will invalidate the warranty if the VW schedule is not followed, and potentially do some engine damage just putting the wrong oil in. We have seen a few people with seized engines, blocked injectors, damaged cat's and turbo's...all from 'guessing' what oil went into the car at the service, or as a top up. You actually got ripped off for that service btw, as I said above, our next 'interim' service would have only cost £99, so you lost out on £11 and the 2year parts and labour warranty
as for the fox a woman at work bought one and had nothing but problems ranging from engine hesitation to general poor build quality, and to be fair it is no where near the quality the VW group seem to think they are, reminds me of a pimped up city rover.
So the car was hesitant and has 'build quality issues'? Want to elaborate, because that's hardly expansive enough to judge a whole brand by, and even worse than that, compare it to a Rover?!? Hesitancy could be cheap fuel in the tank?

Sorry to hear that although you can get rude people in other non VW branded service centres.
:rotfl:...I promise it's not part of the training course. People are people wherever you are, but VW certainly monitor customers and staff so that if there is an issue it's highlighted and the dealership penalised for poor customer service.

your info may well be correct however it was the VW service dept at dealer that said it should be done at 12 months,vw hq said it should be done at 2 years on long life servicing.

so who do we believe to be giving the correct info?

and yes it had all parts purchased from VW dealer including oil of correct spec.

as for the fox the hesitation was eventually repaired it was not cheap fuel, the cause of fault was a faulty ECU apparently although it took numerous visits to get sorted out.and by poor build quality i mean pieces of trim breaking/coming off and general cheap feel.now maybe it is a friday afternoon car but the fox in my opinion is by no means a good advert for the VW brand, maybe the city rover comparison was a bit OTT but sugar coated turd springs to mind when talking about the fox would be better off getting corsa or fiesta for price.

despite all this i actually like the other VW's but do find prices to be over the top for what they are.

One of the most boring cars I had was a VW golf.
It was the worst for rust as well.
And I agree the dealers are obnoxious, especially if you dare to suggest that there could be any possible issue with the car.

I have a 5 door Zetec 1.4 (04) which I bought 3 years ago. Its a great car, runs well and is nippy enough in traffic and fairly economical to run. The split rear seat is useful and I've had a bike in the back, and 3 teenagers and luggage, though not all at the same time!
    somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's

    £6k will get you a better specced 1.6 Astra - not a poverty 1.4.

As a guide - I paid £5900 for a 1.6 Active (alloys, trip computer, etc) in January.

Polo? Avoid - you should be looking at a 6 month old ex-hire job for £6k, not 3 years old. Plus they're small and the interior is depressing.

Fiesta? Meh - I'd rather have a slightly older Focus.

tend to agree here, i never considered a jazz as exciting. ive only ever seen pensioners driving them. as for 500's they are nice looking but everyone has these over priced ford ka's (unless its the abarth).and the swift is ok,but still not classed as invigorating.
if you don't do boring cars then these shouldn't be top of your list,or you need to reconsider your "not doing boring cars" position.
