Blazer in this heat?

I think its great the school wear blazers - the local school to me have kids in polo shorts and black trousers or skirts. They look awful, untidy, far too casual and frankly slutty on some of the girls.
I think having standards at school teaches you a bit about standards for life.
Having said that I we used to have a hot weather policy where if it went above 25 we were allowed to wear short sleeves.
But having said that I also went to a school where the summer outfit was like the school uniform in home and away and we had to kneel on the floor every day after assembly to show skirts were long enough!!
Yes I agree that they look really smart, but I don't think they should have to wear blazers in hot weather.
In offices they have to abide by health and safety rules for office temperatures and many offices are air conditioned, but his school isn't.0 -

Yes but many schools do sucessfully change the rules about blazers in hot weather.
It is the end of the world when your child is missing lessons because of it and it's especially stupid because now is exam time when they should be allowed to perform at their best.0 -
I assume they have acclimatised, but I clearly saw school kids in bangkok this year in 40 degree heat and 85% humidly, wearing ties and blazers they seem to cope.0

They made us wear ours at school, even on a boiling day, with our top button done all the way up - my friend fainted and was sick and the teacher just looked at her as she was on the floor and told someone to get another teacher - STILL DIDNT LET US TAKE THEM OFF!
Exactly my point. I think it's kind of sick to make them feel more worse than they have to.0 -

This seems very strange to me and not at all conducive to learning. Studies have shown that the brain works better in cooler settings and I think it is very extreme to insist that children wear blazers etc in the heat. I am Australian though and have lived in extremely hot locations and the thought of wearing anything like a blazer during summer makes my head spin. Heatstroke is not character building IMO, it is dangerous and if I had children there is no way I would subject them to this.Thailand 3010/15000 20150

Seems cruel and unfair to me!! Why is it character building to be hot and uncomfortable. Most men who wear suits to work take their jackets off during the day. It's just snob value on the part of the school, stick 'em all in polo shirts!!!Slightly bitter0

While I agree that being made to wear blazers in this heat is crazy, dont stick them all in polo shirts, keep them smart.0
