With more simple products maybe but never with more complex things like computers. Ever tried taking a car back after 6 months with a simple fault and asking for a new one? As you stated it was only the hard drive at fault. Comet would have had the manufacturer replace the hard drive for you. Why should comet take back a laptop they cannot return to the manufacturer or resell?
You have lost me? why cant they send back or resale?0 -

you mean a courtesy car?
not always
thats why they are courtesy cars and not entitled to cars0 -

but didnt you get a recovery disc(not partition)
many will boot and install without the partitionGunarysarge wrote: »You have lost me? why cant they send back or resale?

On a new car less than twelve months old you would get a courtesy car and if not you have purchesed from the wrong place. I use to work for a dealership and if we refused a customer a courtesy car when their own car was under warranty we would have been Fired on the spot.0 -
That may be so but your company was under no obligation to do so0

The manufacturer will only take back products like laptops within 28 days (usually, sometimes 14 sometimes 30) of sale. This is to prevent a steady stream of now outdated products being returned over a 12 month period. This would cause cost prices to massively increase. As such when a product is faulty after this period but within the 12 month warranty they will collect it from the person who bought it (you) or the reseller (Comet) and fix it. Under no circumstances will they let Comet return it to them for credit or an exchange. If Comet were to exchange it they would be left with a used laptop that is registered and also without a 12 month warranty. Would you buy that? I know I would not so the laptop effectively becomes rubbish and has to be disposed of. At the stores cost. And considering the margin on laptops is very small (5-15%) they simply cannot afford to do that on the demands of people who do not want to wait for a repair. I appreciate it is inconvenient to be without a laptop. But in perspective it is a situation that can be managed. I know I have mentioned Comet here but you could replace their name with any retailer on online seller of PC's and laptops. Of course there will always be the rare occassions where a machine will be swapped as it is unrepairable or a manufacturer has gone out of business but that does not apply here. Let it go is my advice, you are not going to change the whole system by targeting a very small bunch of people doing their job.0 -

I dont blame Comet for the drive fault thats the manufacturer. But I did not purchase from samsung I purchased from Comet so in my opinion its up to them to sort it with samsung.
Its Samsung who should take the loss in this instance as they are the ones who have built a laptop that can not last for for twelve months.0 -

Thank you for your advise. As for the 28 days they will only refund or exchange if the product has not been opened or used, how can you tell if its faulty:D0 -

This is what Comet States.
If returned to us within 28 days(14 days for PCs and laptops)
we'll exchange or refund any unopened product.
If you've opened the box but not used the product you can choose
from these options;
Credit in full onto a Comet gift card.
products over £25 we'll refund the cost minus a re-stacking fee of 10% upto a maximum of £99. Products under £25 we'll give you a full refund.
The Laptop cost £400 so where does that leave us?
See what I mean.0
