I've just got its smaller brother the Wildfire and think its great. Screen isn't quite so good and the cpu isn't as fast but it can do pretty much the same as the Desire, it's a lot cheaper too! :)

It's regarded as being the best phone available at the moment by a lot of people, including myself.

I have a HTC Hero which is the best phone I have ever had.

The niggles I have (a bit laggy) do not affect the Desire (better hardware).

If you are a tweaker, there is simply no other phone around.

Got one, the battery life of around a day is the only thing I would change about it, it is a fantastic mobile.

I really love mine! Had it for 2 months now. I had an iPhone 3Gs before and think this is much better. I have not missed Apple's seemingly better App store in the slightest!

I got mine for free from the Carphonewarehouse on a £35 Orange contract.

I convinced my father in law to have it as he really wanted an iphone. He actually loves it (however at his age he has issues with such a complex phone).

2 things I would change with the desire:
    Battery life
Not that important but the Phone Design (make it more sleek)

I would second that, and it's doesn't matter how you hold it!
