Gratz on giving up!
If you're self employed and not making a profit, can you claim tax credits? My understanding is if you're on tax credits you don't pay for prescriptions.. might be worth checking it out on https://www.entitledto.org .DFW Nerd No. 140

Great decision
I did it the Allen Carr way after 20 years of the evil weed, four months no problem, fell off the wagon last month, nothing other than a few silly stresses and half a lager set me off again.
I am going to do it again, currently on 5 a day (was 20 before I stopped).
I'm stopping tomorrow for good.
With you all the way
Jo
Hey Jo, well we can keep track on each other! One of the other posters on this thread mentioned the siltquit counter, download it it's great, mine is counting down till my quit time at the moment, but reakon it will be really good to see exactly how long i've gone and how much I've saved etc. Would hate to have to reset it!

Hey saubryn,
Yes your right I can claim tax credits and my level of tax credit would entitle me to free pescriptions if I was on a low income, however being self employed you aren't entitled to passported benefits, ie free school meals, milk tokens, free pescriptions etc. It sucks! My DS school meals are £8 a week, I wear glasses so now have to pay for those and dental check ups etc, it's getting to the point where I may just have to give up the business and go back to being employed! GP understood and has given me three weeks on pescription though, so £6.65 for three weeks instead of £30 on ciggs.

I'm sure you'll get lots of tips, but an ex-smoker friend of mine saved all of her dog-ends for the last week that she smoked and put them in an old jamjar. She added a bit of water, shook it up, put the lid on and left the jar on the kitchen windowsill for a few days. Every time she fancied a ciggie after that, she'd open the jar, take a sniff, and gag. I suppose you could call it revulsion therapy
I know someone who did that! Ashamed to say though I'm a bit immune, student days of ash tray on bedside table in damp flat!:oRiding out the receession.........0 -
Hi there, well done!:T
I was healed through prayer from the addiction of smoking 15 years ago; I could not have coped with the withdrawal symptoms otherwise. After my pastor prayed for me I had no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever and yet I was a 20-a-day smoker at least, often more.
I appreciate this isn't the right way for everyone, we must all do it in the manner right for us ; my husband went cold turkey.
Whatever method is best for you - well done and know that there are people around thinking of you.:D(AKA HRH_MUngo)
