Made a big decision!

Hi all,

Been a couple of months now that I've been a DFW, and whilst my debts are going down, I still keep finding unexpected expenses slowing things down (bill from three for example from months back they hadn't told me about). I am struggling to live within my budget, and getting frustrated with not being able to treat myself ever, so decided it's time to quit smoking. :o I only spend around £10 a week on ciggarettes but that would really help as my cash spends budget is only £45 a week. Last time I tried quitting I used the patches and thats worked best for me, so have an appointment at doctor this afternoon to get another pescription. Hoping to convince him to give me 4 weeks worth on one pescription, as last time it was difficult to get to the surgery every week, adn now that i'm self employed (despite not yet being in profit) I have lost my free pescriptions. So fingers crossed he'll understand and i won't have to be in the situation of paying £6.65 every week for the next 12 weeks on pescriptions. Going to quit thursday, as we're going away so that'll be 3 days without access to fags, and without the boredom in the evenings once my son goes to bed, which is when I usually sit in the garden smoking.

Wish me luck everyone, I'm detirmined to do it, I'd rather buy myself a nice top every now and again, than continue killing myself slowly!:T

    Good luck.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J
  • Good luck with stopping - have you tried Alan Carr's 'Easy Way to Stop Smoking' book? I'm not a smoker, but have several ex-smoker friends who rave about it!

Best of luck - it won't just be your wallet that will be in better health! Also check with your gp is they have any support groups running in the area.

There may also be a stop smoking thread on the health board, but if not, you could always start one.

Checkyour library for this first- the number I have seen at car boots etc. from people who have bought it and promptly fallen back off the wagon.

Re the prescriptions, look into getting a 4 monthly pre-paid certificate. Costs c. £30, iirc and covers any prescriptions you need to get in that time period. You can buy them online - do a google for NHS prepayment certificate.
  • Hi lil'H
Well done on even trying to give up smoking, better for your health and your pennies. Hope you succeed.:T

Tried that it was great, for the 6 hours I lasted! Know loads of people who it worked for, but kind off feel it's one of those things that you need to make work first time round. May go back to it if patches don't work though.

Thanks freda I knew nothing about that. I'll take my calculator to the surgery, and depending on how many weeks he gives me on pescription I'll do whichever is cheaper!
