Anyone recommend a half decent printer

I'll second a HP recommendation, I've had this one since 2004 and still going well. I have found that with HP you may pay more for the genuine cartridges but they last a very long time reducing the cost per page. I would avoid Epson (had 2 break on me within a year and the software be buggy).0

Thanks everyone, I have tried compatable inks, but never seem to work, also need a chip resetter as well otherwise it will stay showing empty!!
This could just be a Lexmark thing maybe??0 -
I used to use an Ink refill kit with my Lexmark (from Maplins), which worked fine. Tesco's compatible inks worked too.0

As per my previous post, I would strongly recommend a Photosmart all-in-one if you are going to be buying one.
I bought this one here, which is currently unavailable. This is a decent one (and available) and is currently reduced to £60.60 (from £99.99). It also has wireless built in, which mine doesn't. Not sure how long it will be on offer, but has excellent reviews, and the new Black colourway looks good too.0 -
I also have HP and recommend it. I had excellent service from them as well.I use Cartridge King for genuine ink cartridges very cheap and free speedy delivery.0

I have a Canon Pixma - ink prices are ridiculous.
I buy a pair of Canon cartridges, and refill them about 4 times using the Argos refill kit - ink prices are now most reasonable !
Good quality prints as well.0
