No hose pipe ban here so far. I water the garden every other day for about two hours.
I can understand the point made by the Australian poster, but seeing as I live in Yorkshire I wont be stopping watering my plants,
I have too much money and time in vested in the garden to see it die off.

Just a thought..........why hasn't anyone come up with a scheme for collecting all that snow that was lying around for weeks this winter, and dumping it in the nearest reservoirs and so enabling all the reservoirs to be full in times of need..............like now!

I have a bucket next to the sink for washing up water and to empty the steam sterilizer in. We have one water butt attached to the shed and are hoping to divert the bathroom water into a butt when we can find a cheap one. Its drizzled here in Manchester yesterday and a bit today but it barely wet the soil so I guess its watering cans at the ready! I did expect this really but cannot afford the bits to sort it for now. :o

Digitalphase - we should be OK in East Anglia. I can't remember a hosepipe ban here at all. Apparently because it is the driest part of the country Anglian Water do all they can to prevent losses/leaks and so keep their stocks up.

  • Each time the washing up bowl has been full - either from washing dishes are cleaning veggies etc I have used it to water the patio plants - containers and hanging baskets etc.

We dont have a hose pipe ban down here but we are metered and I what with the poly tunnel and green house and then the veggie beds i cannot afford to waste any water at all. A few weeks ago our water butts where close to running on empty so me and the other half where lifting buckets from the bath through the window...........waste not want not.

With regards to the soapy water.....I seem to remember my grandad telling me that soapy water was great for the roses....kept the green and black fly at bay.....??????
