Gay asylum seekers from Iran and Cameroon win appeal

ROTFL..i too have heard this one in the media for the last week or so.
Standby for a massive influx of "gay" Africans.
What a joke this country is.
Hopefully that nice Mr Cameron will try to do something about it.
Mrs T kept a tight rein on immigration when she was in power.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

In future the UK will now home everyone who currently lives in a country where it is illegal to be to be gay on grounds of asylum.
Previously the courts held that people claiming asylum could only do so on grounds of the likely hood of torture, imprisonment or death.
Note, this is different to immigration. So whereas a cap may be placed on the level of immigration there will be a sustained influx of asylum seekers claiming to be gay from anywhere where it's frowned upon.
Keep an eye on house prices in Brighton. Oh and try and keep TWH away from this thread.
I have two lines of thought on this, my initial reaction is this is good news as I do not think a civilised country should send gay men and lesbians back to countries where they will be persecuted or killed for their sexual preference.
My concern is that anyone and everyone trying to get into the UK from some nations will simply claim to be gay.
However we should be proud that our asylum system can do this sort of thing. All in all a good result."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."

How many people are you trying to offend in this thread? Just out of interest?
What do you find offensive in the original post Carol? The flippant comment about Brighton was just meant to inject a bit of humor, nothing more.
I know you're not one of those people completely incapable of articulating or expressing themselves during a discussion on an issue that involves peoples sexuality or race without automatically responding with a knee jerk rage about homophobia or racism. That would just mean you were far more narrow minded than a racist homophobe and really quite sad.0 -

My father came to this country as what would now be termed an asylum seeker, without which he would almost certainly have been killed and I would not be here. (And no, it was not for being gay, before you make the obvious bad taste joke.) He has never ceased to be eternally grateful to this wonderful country for taking him in in his hour of need. To have benefitted from that myself but then to deny the opportunity to others to escape an almost certain death or at best extreme violence in that situation would be the worst kind of hypocrisy, in my opinion.
As Spartacus Mills says, it is the test of a civilised society how it deals with people in that kind of situation. There is a world of difference between economic migrants and asylum seekers; it's fair to limit the former, but to deny entry to the latter is equivalent to condemning them to death, which I would not be happy to be done in my name.0 -
i wonder if they are caught with a woman if they will be deported?0

As the UK is surrounded by safe countries, I often wonder why those claiming asylum travel through the safe countries to get to the UK, instead of stopping in the first safe country they get to. Any idea why your father did that Carol?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

i dunno. whilst i can see them being cut for those made redundant and in genuine need of a safety net, i can't see them being so quick to cut the benefits of a gay asylum seeker. they might have a hissy fit.0
