Hi
I have been unemployed for 10 months and have been offered a job.
I need a car to be able to do this job and was wondering if I could ask for help at the job centre to enable me to take up this job offer i.e. some cash help towards purchasing sorry if this post is a bit goofy not meant to be
Thank You

as above - they'll give you some money towards a bus/train ticket but I don't know about a car? I think it's unlikely.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Do the other sites not have public transport, or do the company have pool cars? If you need a loan for a car you really should be speaking to your employer.

Have they offered you the job on the provision that you told them that you already had a car?

The problem you have is that buying a car and all the insurance etc associated with it is very expensive.

A far better option would be to see if you can borrow a car if needed. Visits to other sites won't be happening every day will they? Do you not have any family or friends who have a car and who could put you on their insurance for a couple of months.

Then start the job, use the bus to get in and if you need to use the car then borrow it, and get your car when you are financially ready and sure that the job is for you.

Otherwise, if the job fails, the risk you run is a debt that you can't afford for a car that you don't need.

Not ideal - but certainly safer.
